I don't think alcohol was involved but partner's sort-of father died in the hot tub. And wasn't found for a while. :(
But did he drown or die naturally with a heart attack?

It always amuses me that when I post about how dangerous swimming is, it seems to antagonise and I get many posts trying to prove something different.

*Psssss!* Mersea Rd co-op fully stocked on Friday and popped in this evening and still plenty of bog roll...

I've previously linked to NHS Epidemic plans a while back - where the govt is and will struggle is inimplementing parts esp with staffing which in the plans is all a bit hand wavy. China shipped in reinforcement docs and nurses from around the country in a mass mobilisation to effected areas cos they can. Will be Interesting to see how Italian healthcare frontline copes as a week ago is was already described at breaking point and its only getting worse.
Asda today the toilet roll aisle was completely empty, that’s not strictly true there was still some 24 pack monsters on display but I refuse to buy something so big for no purpose, no smaller packs.

I’ve been involved in some emergency planning for police fire ambulance communications et cetera, some military of course, so I’ve had to sit through some very long meetings about such matters and as you probably know it’s fairly well planned and thought out. All of the plans kind of failed at the first hurdle as generic scenario testing always seems to “just miss” but due to the nature of the plan it’s flexible and the people that make their life out of it are actually really good (in my opinion)

Of course resource is a serious issue and it will require flexibility and some voluntary work as well. That of course will cause wails of anxiety and distress amongst some but it’s just the way it is.

It probably will test the system to breaking point but in a few months it will be behind us and we can get back to worrying about, well everything that we worry about when we’re not worrying about this I suppose . Or more to the point we can worry about whatever the Internet tells us to worry about :)

Honestly don't know. I'm not sure they ever determined what happened sufficiently. (I never saw a PM report or anything.)

Havent any of you Anglo saxons mastered the art of the bidet on one of the many european mini breaks? The bog role thing must be a displacement activity. I cannot imagine worrying about that while trying to survive viral pneumonia. And I think there is widespread denial. Close friends (an old couple) visited us this weekend and he (a retired head of an art dept) still insisted it can be contained. It cant, and there wont be enough specialist breathing equipment in hospitals. 3% of 10 million would be enough to completely overwhelm the nhs. But apologies if this come across as alarmist.

First time was Parisian squat & drop in the dark during the 80s at the coach station - did try a modern bidet installed at friends all good as long as the water jet preheater is working! And when there were three of us in the loo helping a friend (long story) it was hilarious when it sprayed all over us as the water spray got accidently triggered before anyone sat down.

Think we should offer credit to NHS and PHE where its due. So far UK is showing fewest Coronavirus victims (per head of pop) in Europe. Its not coincidence or fact we are an island.
Our testing system is showing aroynd 0.2% positive results and has so far tested 4th greatest numbers in world. Italy's testing has proved inadequate and is probably partly responsible for their poor situation now. China and South Korea have with their excellent testing been able to isolate the correct people at correct time leading to both countries now suggesting the virus has peaked with them. Lets hope as our numbers increase our increased testing capacity helps us do same. (our capability was doubled yesterday with NHS now carrying out 50%)
Italy suggesting we should copy their methods (banning all large gatherings etc) is rather ironic. (They have tested far fewer than us relatively and their positive results are around 5% with longer delays in return of results)
USA testing record is appalling but they are bringing in potential to test 1 million tests daily. Testing and isolation of correct people at correct time is essential. On this front UK are doing well. Hence our relatively few cases... So far. Worrying times.
I, d hope any policies were there to keep out of intensive care. If testing and isolation fail no number of intensive care places would be enough. Filling those is the last resort.

The WHO says that Russian Federation has 7 cases - which is possibly the lowest per head for any country in the European region (using WHO's definition) unless there are countries with zero which are not listed.

Gone up to 20 - as folk have returned / coming from Italy in past couple of days.
20 might be right, but WHO are reporting 7 - even now. (I did check before posting my reply earlier.)

Ukraine with 1 might be even better per head. Real point though was, obviously, that the UK is not the best in the European region on a per head basis.

But the latest infection (guy in haslemere in surrey) had not been abroad and was infected in the uk, meaning we like every other country have an unknown number of locals who are infected and infecting. But it's fine, I'm sure boris will come up with something (gather on radio 4 he decided we do not like italy need bother with broader quarantine)

It‘s preposterous to pretend that the only new infections are arriving from outside the country. There will be hundreds, if not thousands carrying the virus right now, and they each will be infecting others people. They won’t know they are doing it because they will be feeling fine. The explosion is going to happen in a few weeks time when everyone’s symptoms emerge.

It‘s times like this which test leadership. Ordinarily, they can get away with BS, but there isn’t going to be any hiding from this situation. From the comments in the Tory Fanboy Mail, Boris isn’t doing too well in the leadership stakes.

That's a couple of days old - 8/3/20

On 8 March, three new cases in Belgorod, Moscow and Kaliningrad oblasts were confirmed, all of them have returned from Italy.[21]

On 9 March, three cases in Moscow were confirmed, all of them coming from Italy.
