I`ll ask the same question again in light of the latest EU statement - What`s happening at the Border then ?? What preparations have been made there?? Or will we just settle for a free for all?

"The European Commission has today confirmed it has “completed its no-deal preparations”.
In a press release from the EU’s executive body this morning, Brussels declares “it is increasingly likely that the United Kingdom will leave without a deal on 12 April”.
There will be free trade between NI and RoI in the short term. UK customs will be examining all shipping from NI to Scotland and Dublin to UK etc They will apply tariffs on any Non Identified as NI originating produce .Dublin port has set aside land for the equivalent . It is likely that Irish government agents will be lurking around the ports of Larne and Belfast recording the East West passage of containers. In the event that they appear south if the border soon after, then they will likely be stopped by Irish Customs. I would assume similar activity by UK agents in Rosslare.
These are of course highly unsatisfactory and a border will appear sooner or later.

To clear up the old trope that when we entered the EEC we didn't know that it would develop into what it has I offer this proof that if people didn't, it was because they either didn't read the press, or have memory loss

...
And this too
....

Inconvenient Facts aren't they? you knew what you were voting for before the Referendum about staying in membership

And that was reinforced with the building of the Channel Tunnel

"... It will also be a demonstration of how to go about the practical making of Europe and demolishing its barriers. Indeed we may have an interesting race between the promised completion of the single Common Market in 1992 and the Tunnel a year later. I understand that those responsible for the Tunnel will get bonuses for finishing early. I wish the same were true in Europe.

Mr President, the sheer scale of the Channel Tunnel project has daunted many of our predecessors over the last 200 years. Too often in the past pioneering spirits, men of vision and imagination, have been foiled by bureaucracy, narrow minds or plain fear of the unknown.

I hope this time: — that we can rise above the hesitations of the p* —that we can grasp the excitement of this project and the scale of the benefits which it could bring to both our countries and to Europe as a whole. —and that we can have the self-confidence in our generation to match the boldness and imagination of our predecessors who in their time demonstrated the ingenuity, the ambition and the enterprise which made both our countries great. At last she's getting the hint about the other alternatives...

"Theresa May says MPs have previously expressed opposition to a no-deal exit but the alternative "is to pursue a different form of Brexit or a second referendum".

She adds: "The bottom line remains that if the House does not approve a withdrawal deal and cannot countenance leaving without a deal we will have to seek a longer extension.

"We will have to take part in European elections."

Yes, it's looking increasingly like either a very soft Brexit with Customs Union to solve the backstop problems, or a second referendum.

After the current record breaking petition, Remain will have to be one option in a second referendum.

Surely if we take part in the EU elections the farce is over?

Remain will have won and brexit is over for 4 years at least.

This could destroy the tories so it's not all bad.

I wonder if @flecc still thinks Mays deal will go through?

My MP Will Quince, Colchester is tabling an ammendment for tonight

https://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/17525138.colchesters-mp-tables-amendment-to-brexit-motion-asking-government-to-honour-leave-vote/

The amendment states Parliament gave the decision on EU membership to the British people in the 2016 referendum and its result should be honoured.

...which has been backed by 81 MPs.
Only a few problems there then...
First if all none of the ammendments are going to be binding, so tomorrow they can play at government again and have one calling for a referendum, or revoking art 50...All passes time I suppose until we leave on 12th with no deal.
Its an utter farce. All pointless arguments from spineless people.
They should have an ammendment asking if Parliament could make a decision, but they wouldnt agree and it wouldnt be binding anyway, so they wouldnt have to make one.
Have they actually made a decision about anything in past 3 years?
Its rather like Groundhog day without the humour. We should sack the lot of them and start again.

It still could. The delay to the 12th has removed a bit of urgency, but one day there will be a final deadline which could get the deal through. That's more likely if the House gets control instead of the government, since that will panic the ERG into being more co-operative.

And/or of course, May could add customs union to ease the deal into being accepted with Labour's help.

I think atm. And it does change daily. Or hourly.... It looks like remain win. May resigns. And a general election in June. I'm guessing Labour will offer a new referendum depending on who takes over the Tories them too.

What a waste of time and effort. Votes mean nothing anymore and we enter a dark age of politics that make the expense scandals look like an age of Nye Bevan.

But of course parliament did no such thing. The referendum asked the public's opinion, the final decision only ever belonged to parliament.

Given how indecisive the result was with the country fairly evenly divided, it's entirely proper for parliament to either make the final decision or go back to the people for that, now the various options are known.

May said any indicative vote that goes against her red lines won't be accepted by her government even if accepted by the majority of MPs.
Her intransigence leaves little room for compromise.
I reckon JC's wish will come true, he'll get his GE soon.

But you voted for this process when you voted Leave to 'Take back control' Parliamentary Sovereignty with some help from UK Law Courts and Gina Miller and all that - taste of what's to come for a long time if we pursue this Leaving malarky down the rabbit hole.

Votes started meaning nothing when Blair turned a Labour win into a pseudo Tory one, ditching Labour's socialist past. Now neither party gives a damn what the public want, just pursuing self interest policies.

Or a coup de etat. Senior tories have been suspiciously unequivocal in how much they stand behind her.

Not quite. Mays previous blunder of a ge gave us a hung parliament, that saved our bacon, by paralysing her. If it werent for those votes we'd be skewered, subjected to her insane narcissistic whims. Imagine her with a big majority.
