Fear new insurance rule could put people off electric bikes
Thousands of potential cyclists could be put off if compulsory third party insurance is introduced for electric bikes, a leading retailer has warned.
Halfords said the proposal, being considered by the European Union, would be "unnecessarily complex" and would burden people with extra costs

Don't worry too much, the EU Commission are constantly putting up such ideas. Previously we've had helmets for all bikes, helmets for all e-bikes, more recently only full-face helmets for mopeds.

They generally disappear, often overruled by the Dutch who are the leading power in the EU where all cycling is concerned. When the Dutch say no to a cycling proposal, it cannot happen.

I'd have liked to have seen the actual questions asked, they must have been biased since this outcome is simply not true. Nor do I believe the majority of Tory MPs want a hard Brexit, only about 80 of them were Leavers.

69% of them agree with current strategy, hard brexit. Only 19% of them want soft brexit.
The electorate at large is very different of course, but they don't put their man/woman directly into No 10. So much for first past the post voting system.

Thanks, as I suspected very loaded. Given the public's ignorance of the subject and their uncertainties, they will largely tend to vote for the status quo, better the devil you know etc.

The huge gap between status quo and the other options clearly indicates that.

I believe the issue is down to brexit being portrayed as patriotic, by deduction, remain isn't. Patriotism is a bigger issue when you carry a membership card and pay annual subscription.

Yes there's certainly a lot of truth in that. Remainers who called Brexiters "little Englanders" were reflecting that.

indulging in some hyperbole myself I'd say if this trend continues there will soon be tens of thousands of brexit voters camping illegally in dover hoping to get into Calais..

Boris is in New Zealand on a working holiday...I have been on product launches like that....so this is the new widget,how do you turn it on? You press the on switch,ok so thats the launch over, is it down to the pool,off to the bar or expensive helicopter flight round the island?
Have you noticed how government meetings always take place in expensive locations like Davos.....whats wrong with Scunthorpe?????

I sympathise with your situation in Northern Ireland, which I understand could well shape opinion about the EU. But here in England and given our history and record since WW2, my opinion is the opposite.

The EU certainly isn't bankrupt, in fact it's been bucking up lately, but yes, it's certainly underperforming, just like us in the UK. Judgment of the EU is a glass half full/half empty situation, pessimists look at the south, optimists look north, and I'm an optimist.

I'll also be dead before long which makes it easy not to worry!

And they are expecting this to transform their profits that are down by 30%?
It would be comical if it wasn't tragic.
The Headline Coming to the UK makes one wonder if production has moved to China!

It has taken a Million Years (or it seems like) for Brompton to come out with a Front Hub Motor and Battery in a Bag on the front, that some of us have been riding for years.

Ah, but it's a Williams hub motor, reputedly. Though I wouldn't be surprised to find that it's a fairly standard Chinese DD design.

If what the MD said is true, it's going to fail in the market anyway. He said it does 20 to 30% of the work, which makes it the lowest powered of all, even lower than other bikes Eco setting which at 50% of rider input is 33% of the total. I can't see any design that can't at least equal the rider input succeeding.
