Mind, so many people have had such a scare about the potential costs, our demand could seriously plummet. Albeit accompanied by great suffering, many deaths, etc.
Short term the subsidies will take care of that, but of course they cannot go on indefinitely. Longer term there are variables we have no control over. Global warming could become our best friend for a while.

For example, this year, with record temperatures being much milder than the previous one, meant my only fuel, electricity, being 12% less from January to April and 10% less over the eight months to date. No effort on my part, this was just due to the weather change. If this trend continues we could be ok, until the warming reaches undesirable levels.

Conversely though, climate change is threatening a total collapse of the Gulf Stream which could give us Norway's climate, a catastrophe for this country. Link

Truss won't last, the divided Tory party will destroy her, like it destroyed Theresa May.
.
I agree. Seems she will appoint her supporters to every role. But, with less than a majority among MPs, she might struggle to avoid appointing some who are less that effusive in praise simply due top numbers. At least, lower down the ranks.

That looks like a recipe for failure.

she is a better tactician than TM though.
Her forthcoming plan to pay £100 billions to the energy companies in the next two years while cancelling all windfall taxes on them will get her approval ratings up.

Only initially before they start thinking. That amount is only about £1000 per home per annum, but the prices are already up far more than that even before the planned October, January, April increases to come, to cope with the world market trend.

And of course this is assuming all the £100 billions gets to the customers. It never does of course, a fair slice will find its way into shareholders pockets in the usual manner.

The idiocracy continues.
Johnson and Truss have flown to Aberdeen to meet the Queen at Balmoral.
This complex logistical operation has been carried out using 2 Dassault Falcon 900 aircraft, one for each of them.
Despite reports that the 2 idiots were using "private jets", these are RAF planes financed by you and me, the public.
Truss on G-ZABH and the other buffoon on G-ZAHS if you want to watch on your favourite flight tracker.

Operated by Centreline.

And, I appreciate the irony of them being French manufactured aircraft. We don't even make the wings!

On the flight check I looked at two flights were highlighted for Aberdeen. Johnson's, as you say. And the next was a RyanAir flight from Malaga. I did wonder as it had a lot of followers...

no, why give money to customers? That would be seen as a handout.
all that money goes straight to the energy generating and gaz companies so to cut price at source.

I don't think cancelling windfall taxes will be universally popular!
conservative membership is the key to all this.
They own the shares of the energy companies.

Same thing. Supposedly the benefit to go to the end consumer, but as I said, it won't. The way these big companies account, a proportionof it gets filtered to the shareholders.

Remember the Thames Water example I gave you long ago, divided into seven companies, each accounting separately and declaring profits, making it a nightmare to work out what goes where:

this idea of capping energy price for the whole country was floated back in July. I can't remember if it was Labour's idea but in essence, the statisticians reckon that doing so would cut inflation rate by 3%-3.5%. I am all for it.

Don't know about its true origin (though there are surely several - it's not that gigantic an intellectual leap) but certainly Labour were talking about it some time ago.

Knowing the Queen's mischievous habit of making the odd embarrassing comment to those she meets, I wonder if she was tempted to remind Liz Truss that, as a Liberal Democrat, she campaigned to get rid of the monarchy.

If she is well enough to be thinking straight, I'd not be in the least surprised if she did. Though whether we ever hear it as spoken is less likely.

I think she is quite well enough. I'm sure that we are seeing is the Palace trying to keep her alive as long as possible, even to 100, though that is unlikely. Just as they did with Prince Philip.

Ever since the Queen Mother made it to 104 they've been trying to make longevity uniquely notable in British royalty, of value for tourism of course.

And of course given Charles' eccentric ways, she may also want to keep him off the throne as long as possible, even long enough at his 73 years for him to stand aside for William.
