Point take, but the UK has been a victim of fraud, rather than embarking on a calculated act intended to defraud the EU.
lots of people reported the issues to HMRC - the EU notified HRMC for years before taking the British government to Court. Our own ONS estimated that we lose 667 millions a year in frauds by Chinese importers.

Political journalists boycott No 10 briefing after PM's aide tried to ban selected reporters

Rowena Mason

Rowena Mason

Political journalists walked out of No 10 Downing Street this afternoon in protest at the government planning to give a briefing on the EU only to selected reporters – banning The Mirror, i, Huffington Post, PoliticsHome, Independent and others from attending.
Reporters on the invited list were asked to stand on one side of a rug in the foyer of No 10, while those not allowed in were asked by security to stand on the other side.
After one of Boris Johnson’s most senior advisers, Lee Cain, told the banned reporters they must leave the building, the rest of the journalists decided to walk out rather than allow Downing Street to choose who scrutinises and reports on the government.
Among those who refused the briefing and walked out included the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, ITV’s Robert Peston and political journalists from the Daily Mail, Telegraph, the Sun, Financial Times, and Guardian.
The briefing was due to be given by government officials, who are meant to be neutral, rather than political.
The tactics from No 10 mirror those of Donald Trump in the US who has been known to try to exclude journalists from reporting on his activities and represents an escalation of Johnson’s tensions with the media, which have been ramping up in recent weeks.

Even their own tame press too!
Fuhrer Cummings failed this time!

This sad
Motorbike firm which said UK would thrive outside of EU goes into administration
And an illustrious company it was too
Norton
"

In September 2018 Norton Motorcycles owner Stuart Garner claimed he had no fears about Brexit, and said that it would be a "huge opportunity" to negotiate trade deals around the globe.
He claimed that the UK was better prepared for Brexit than the media would have us believe.
"It's what the country voted for so let's get on with it," he told the Leicester Mercury.

Commenting on the future for his iconic British business, he said: "I believe we will thrive outside the EU. There may be some short-term speed bumps but we'll come out of it stronger.
"We're a strong-willed nation and will make it succeed."
He added: "And I don't buy the media line that we are unprepared for Brexit."

A year ago, Stephen Barclay, the outgoing Brexit Secretary, said Norton was an example of a "great business" that would thrive when Britain leaves the EU.
However less than two years later, in the same week the UK was to leave the European Union, the firm has gone into administration after reportedly struggling to pay a tax bill. The owner also blamed Brexit uncertainty."

I remember mine with fond memories and now a tinge of sadness
It was a 1960 650 SS and three years old when I got it, with a seized engine due to of all things broken rings in the right hand cylinder, nothing that a rebore and new pistons and rings wouldn't fix!
Best handling of any bike I ever rode.

The EU issues it's Guidelines for the next stage
https://ec.europa.eu/info/sites/info/files/communication-annex-negotiating-directives.pdf

And Boris makes this speech
https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-speech-in-greenwich-3-february-2020
Here is just a sample
"
at that moment humanity needs some government somewhere that is willing at least to make the case powerfully for freedom of exchange, some country ready to take off its Clark Kent spectacles and leap into the phone booth and emerge with its cloak flowing as the supercharged champion, of the right of the populations of the earth to buy and sell freely among each other.
And here in Greenwich in the first week of February 2020, I can tell you in all humility that the UK is ready for that role.
We are ready for the great multi-dimensional game of chess in which we engage in more than one negotiation at once and we are limbering up to use nerves and muscles and instincts that this country has not had to use for half a century.

Secretary of State Liz Truss tells me she has the teams in place:

She has the lawyers, top dollar I’ve no doubt, the economists, trade policy experts and if we don’t have enough, or if they don’t perform, believe me we will hire some more.

We will reach out to the rest of the Commonwealth, which now has some of the fastest growing economies in the world."

What happens if the commonwealth don't want to play Boris? India is asking for free movement of people if we want a trade deal for instance.

Not a good start Boris

that poll's result is poorly interpreted by those who'd like a sensational headline.
After excluding the don't knows, 27% choose to quit, 39% to remain and the rest some other solution in between.
If there were a straightforward remain/leave, the 34% in between may be split half way, giving 56/44 to remain.

On that declaration (that Liz Truss was put in charge), the Pound dropped 2 cents today against the USD.
It is difficult to find a more idiotic looking minister than that one.

Priti Patel's rictus grin? surely is a contender and there is always Hannan with the laughing Hyena smile.
But the Slothful Mogg would be my choice in that illustrious company

As I said before, the EU project has very little future:
Nonsense, we went through all this very recently and discussed it in this thread. What happened then is that their public went to the polls and the right wing failed again.

It'a always the same story, The Netherlands, France and Italy said to be about to go right wing and anti the EU, but it never happens.

The EU will still be thriving when we are being carried feet first, neatly boxed.

What pathetic infantile trick questions.

Let me ask you which is closer to Beijing?

Wales or New Zealand? Does anybody know?

Wales of course is the correct answer.

Now recalculate:
Using other places in China than Beijing.
Using places on the coast - after all, most lamb is transported by sea.
Using realistic routes - ships across the sea and canals, aircraft on routes that are viable.
Finally, using cost of transport rather than miles.

Now compare the cost to China of a unit of lamb.

Also, really helpful that all our EU protected statuses are disappearing and UK replacements are not up and running. And likely won't be recognised anywhere outside the UK.

Finally - the "green cost":
NEW Zealand lamb can travel thousands of “food miles” and still be better for the environment than Welsh lamb, researchers have claimed.

A survey by scientists at the University of Lincoln in New Zealand, concluded that lamb imported from New Zealand is four times as energy efficient as lamb reared in the UK, even when carbon emissions from the transport process are taken into account.

The largest one day drop since 17 December 2019.

Revised:
Actually now a bigger drop than 17 December 2019 - but I can't easily see when the last bigger drop occured. Some journo, somewhere, will tell us.
