I wonder if Jeremy Corbyn will be swerving the Press.TV studios (Iranian state propaganda TV) until the missiles stop falling. This is a channel banned by OFCOM for filming torture. At 20K a pop, it was a nice little Bunsen Burner for JC.

Apparently the Ukranians have removed tweet saying engine fire brought plane down.
Iranians are refusing to release flight box and there are reports fusalage is peppered with holes.
But there were 70 Iranians killed on board??
All sheer madness.

Highest probability has to be a local air defence error surely?

Boris just said we have helped forge a "European response" to the Iran situation.

I wonder if for just a moment he questions the import of those words?

Nah! not a chance in a million is there?

The test card gets severely monotonous. :)

(For those with grey/white hair, if any at all.)
There was one of those very droll deadpan l NI comedians who had a full routine based on this... He would start with. We got a television .It was wonderful ,we would watch it for hours... Sometimes we might switch it on. Then he would move on to what happened to those little grey people who got smaller and smaller when you turned it off, while they were still there. Did they still live in the dot?

Maybe or yet another drone strike or sabotage? The first victim of war is truth.
that is usually the case but I as the accident happened so close to Tehran, I think the probability of American drones shooting it down is near zero.

Getting back to brexit, Ursula Von der Leyen is now looking to extend the implementation period.
She used to be a student at the LSE:
I got to know a warm, vibrant, colourful, multicultural society – the likes of which I had not really experienced before. I saw people from different walks of life going out together, enjoying life, breathing in freedom. I immersed myself in this melting pot of cultures, traditions and music. And I truly fell in love with this city and this country.

This country, strong-willed, open-minded and big hearted. Proud and patriotic. Kind and generous in spirit.
She may do a lot better than her predecessor, JC Juncker.

General opinion within the EU is that the BJ implementation period is very unrealistic. The EU Trade Commissioner ..or as we call him Big Phil has been saying this for some time. He came back to Ireland fir the Christmas Hols.
Eye witness accounts suggest a fire or flames at one of the engines in the UA aircraft. .. Hence my suggestion of sabotage. A small incendiary set to 8000 ft . Perhaps our resident aviation expert might comment? The Iranians are refusing to send the black boxes back to Boeing, In light of Boeing's current credibility not an unreasonable call. There are presumably plenty of airlines and unaligned countries with the necessary simulators, and analysis .

the Trump just appeared on the News
"We suffered no casualties and there was minimal damage, iran appears to be standing down."

As I posted earlier, we now are told four of the 22 missiles launched missed their targets .
So we have 18 missiles with 500lb warheads (allegedly) thats 9000lbs of high explosives
Targetted with such a degree of high precision to do so little damage and to cause no casualties.
On two air bases at that.

This must quality as the most expensive waste of sophisticated ballistic missiles in the entire history of war, or was it?

There's a definite smell of Rodent about the situation

This reader's comments in the Independent are in line with mine

The attacks on Erbil and al-Asad were with missiles having no warheads or very small warheads that managed to evade all the US anti-missile defences. The idea was to try to demonstrate to the US (probably without success) that Iran is quite capable of a devastating attack, by sending a warning that caused no harm to any personnel. If Trump lets it go on the grounds that no one got hurt, we’ve just de-escalated. If not, ...

it this is true, then it's a good move from the Iranians.
