We will have plenty of housing if we reduce the population. It is the continuation of the state sponsored breeding program which is the problem. We should stop all financial, educational and housing assistances for second children born after a future cut off date. A good proportion of them are birthed by slappers anyway and in turn will grow up to yield more “good for nothings.” We don’t want or need them, so why house them?
Fascinating bit of insight there, how about backing it up with some figures?
What by the way what are Slappers? I though that term went out with the Ark.

And are you suggesting that their children who will one day turn out to be Tax paying citizens should be penalised and unwanted and made homeless for the crime of being born?.
Let's face it tillson,
I don't object to the taxes being used to support these people, because it will pay back in time

The problem we have in this country is of an ageing population not being replaced by a younger one that will in time bring a dividend of more taxpayers.
And here you are because it is allegedly costing you a quid or two, denying the nation the future human resources it needs to be competitive.

Short sighted greed

Only a touch biased from DM... But you get the point. Interesting comments though, rather a lot of them and pretty much all anti Macron... (Before OG says folk commenting are all DM readers, not quite, there are generally anti DM, pro remain comments)
I do think just as many on here push folk toward Tories, Macron is helping leave rather than remain.
I do suspect another everendum would show bigger majority for leave...???? Think many have seen EU in rather a poorer light recently....
You are of course posting in fun, first the author quotes the words of a collaborator

"We’ll never forgive you, you know,’ he said abruptly, gazing moodily into his glass. ‘For what?’ I asked. ‘For the Second World War,’ he said. ‘Winning it, I mean.’"
What kind of an insensitive lunatic would articulate such a view?
Apart from everything else we were on the winning side and the author in this so blatant bit of fiction has embroidered our role and denigrated and insulted the French at one and the same time

The author of the article it seems is nearly as bad as you at twisting the facts.
here's another myth he has created

"This is, of course, a familiar Macron theme. Barely a month passes without him delivering another lecture about the shameful insolence of our vote to leave the EU."
That is straight out of the Brexit lies and deceit for dummies guide

And this demonstrates what a pillock the article writer is
"many of our Gallic neighbours have never really forgiven us for Agincourt and Waterloo, let alone for our effrontery in standing up to Hitler in 1940 while they ignominiously crumbled and collaborated.

What an arrogant and insulting prat the author is.This is purely the sort of bile we get from Brexit supporting fanatics.

then he resorts to personal attack and character slurs
"From his unusual marital history to his pretensions of grandeur, he conforms absolutely to type.

And he ends on the worst gaffe of the lot appealing to would be "patriots" with this corny lie.
"Britain can take it. After all, we have taken it before — and worse. And if there is one thing guaranteed to unite us, it is that we will never, ever give in to a foreign bully.

Oh for heaven's sake that is the biggest lie of all
Remember Suez? the Americans kicked us out of Egypt and bullied us all the way back to the UK

Sorry Zlatan, you have made a fool of yourself in regarding this nonsense as some sort of wisdom.

….and not for the first time! Sometimes, I think you expect too much from a fully paid-up internet troll, OG.

I actually think, perhaps out of some manner of deep-seated kindness, you allow him more latitude than his perverse contributions merit.
Not kindness oldtom, Zlatan operates a useful service to the thread.

He provides fresh targets for me to offer an alternative point of view on, in a sort of symbiotic and harmless sport, akin to Clay pigeon shooting.

This allows the many watchers who lurk and never contribute to the thread a source of continuous light amusement, and perhaps even odd snippets and insights they may not get in the usual media

I look forward to his posts.
Remember my earliest comments on the subject
"He came to drain the swamp
And stayed to play with the Alligators"

And before you remind me I also gave a later variation. where the second line reads
"But managed only to swamp the Drains"

He is second only in my Esteem to tillson (for whatever that's worth)

The slightly hidden side.

May secretly woos key Labour MPs to back her Brexit deal
Senior Tories press ‘national interest’ case for supporting PM to avoid no-deal outcome

Theresa May has drawn up plans for a secret charm offensive aimed at persuading dozens of Labour MPs to back her Brexit deal even if it costs Jeremy Corbyn the chance to be prime minister, the Guardian has learned.

Senior Conservatives say they have already been in private contact with a number of Labour MPs over a period of several months, making the case that the national interest in avoiding a no-deal outcome is more important than forcing a general election by defeating the government on May’s Brexit deal.

Now, with talks in Brussels entering their frantic final phase, the prime minister and her party whips are stepping up efforts to win backing for a compromise deal that one minister described as a “British blancmange”.

Still struggling with finding a phrase that can contain "Theresa May" and "Secret Charm" while keeping a straight face!

"British blancmange" eh? more of a soggy Cowpat.
And this revelation that some of the Labour Mp's will be party to this is appalling.

Time that this Brexit fiasco was binned, as neither the leave voters or those who remain will benefit, the Westminster Flying Circus has taken back control
And intends to do what what it likes using it as an excuse, regardless of "The will of the people" or even those who oppose it.

They have mugged us all and stolen Brexit for their private gain.
To alter, amend, abuse and make it an excuse for whatever swindle takes their fancy

Fascinating news over Unilever, and how fact and Fiction mingle here
From the Express
"
Brexit passes MARMITE TEST as Unilever bosses SCRAP Amsterdam move
BREXIT Britain passed the Marmite test today after Unilever bosses scrapped their plans to move their headquarters from London to Amsterdam. The consumer goods giant which produces Marmite, Coleman’s Mustard, Comfort, Radox, PG Tips, Vaseline and many other famous brands ditched its plans in what has been seen as a show of confidence in Britain after Brexit.

Does it indeed, or could this reader comment in the Independent be nearer to the truth?

" The main reason for the move to incorporate Unilever 100% in the Netherlands is that the Netherlands has protections for companies against hostile takeovers that the UK lacks. The huge Dutch multinational paint company, Akzo Nobel, recently faced down a hostile bid by an American company to take it over, in part because of protection by Dutch law. The main shareholders blocking the move to Rotterdam of Unilever were the UK "financial services" companies Legal and General and Aviva. These companies love the "dividends" to them created by endless mergers and acquisitions, and care little about the chaos that often ensues."

It could well be that it was actually a Hostile move by the Investors and undermines the company so that they can make a killing if a take over "opportunity" presents itself?

So it comes down to the following choices from an Investor's point of view
  1. Confidence in a Brexit Bonus
  2. Wanting to protect the ability to take short term profits from hostile take over bids regardless of the best future interests of the Company
I know which I think is the more likely!
What a perfect example of the motivation of the leave campaigners, Brexit in a nutshell.
Profit now employing any means, and to Hell with the Future.

And here is another case of distorting News in the Express
"
BREXIT BRITAIN BEGINS: May ALREADY lining up trade deals - two SURPRISE countries first up
EXCLUSIVE: A trade deal with Chile is expected to be signed within just a few months, a senior government insider has revealed.

This is the reality
"The deals will initially replicate agreements with the EU and pass them on to the UK but will have built in mechanisms to create much deeper and more open trade agreements once the UK is free to negotiate.

Not new trade deals, just crumbs from the EU's table, and of course we are hoping the EU has no objection to us begging for scraps.
"Currently the UK trading relationship with Chile is £1.8 billion but the government believes it is an example of one which will grow hugely as a result of Britain taking back control of its trade policy from Brussels."

Can anyone explain why our business there will "Grow hugely" and what we can offer them that the infinitely more powerful EU cannot?

Are we really reduced to being a "Pickpocket" state like this?

I doubt anyone can explain the 'growth' suggestion as it's simply propaganda engineered by the tory scum as they begin their final softening-up process of the British public before selling out everyone with their 'Brexit' non-plan,

As to the part in block letters, that is a nicely-put description of exactly what we will be reduced to in the the future.

Fools' gold!

Of course, Chile wouldn't be trying to get the UK on-side in its continuing disputes with Bolivia, Peru and (I think to a lesser extent) Argentina?

When I was at school "two" was more than "one". What is the other one?

As for "already", weren't most of the countries of the world supposed to be queuing up to make deals within nanoseconds of the despicable referendum?

I have a terrific plan Captain cried Baldrick, we just copy out all the EU trade deals and
delete the other 27 names at the bottom!
With any luck nobody will notice

A trade deal with Chile is expected
Aha! Ignorant of Chilean politics, now I see why this has happened this year - and not last.

Sebastián Piñera

Only the first billionaire president of Chile. And:

Piñera's victory meant a shift towards the right, breaking two-decades of center-left political leadership and becoming the first elected right-wing leader in 52 years.

Spotted this and just wondered how the clowns who support 'Brexit' can live with themselves when they know that they are aligning themselves with the likes of these:

You never ever explain your stance on supporting Labour and Corbyn and yet insist on posting contradictory and insulting posts about other leavers. It's quite a ridiculous stance, your normal response to this line of questioning is resort to your troll insult... So come on Tom, please explain how you can be so set against ALL leavers and still support Labour..???!!
Kier Starmer actually threatened to resign over this ambiguity.. not yours, but that apparent in Labour at moment. He recognised it, you ignore it.
