Brexit, for once some facts.

Porton Down and Wikipedia are both saying it was Novichok. I,d guess Wikipedia are simply quoting the leading experts, ie Porton Down.
But Novichok is a term for a range of nerve agents produced from similar widely available ingredients. Saying it was a Novichok is like saying a car is a small hatchback, giving no real identification.

Hence all the statements "of a Novichok type", that expression first used publicly by Porton Down's head of research.

do you have the impression that the public is being softened up to accept we'll going to bomb Assad's army?
I doubt we'd dare. It could bring us face to face to the Russian Air Force, not a risk either May or Trump would take, and also bring us into direct conflict with the UN since Russia would veto any such action.

Iraq mark 2 and that resultant mess, not to mention the example of the chaos we've caused by bombing the Libyan regime in support of the rebels.

We have to accept that Bashir Assad has won. In my opinion he was always going to, even without Russia's help. It's the rule that for a coup to succeed, it has to succeed in the opening days. If it's failed to take central power after around a week it fails, since by then the powers have woken up and reacted with their established forces. Then it's downhill all the way for the rebels.

Those who have been keeping up with the news will be aware of Boris Johnson's latest expression of his fascist interest and support for evil, racist people in other countries.

This is how he responded to the result of the Hungarian election; Hungary of course being a land with which the UK has never enjoyed any large-scale trade exchanges.....indeed, one would need to look pretty closely to discover any common interests between the Magyars and the UK. Those who remember the 1950s when football was a man's game will be very familiar with a couple of scorelines from that decade which may have soured any diplomatic relations, let alone encourage trade!

Congratulations to Fidesz and Viktor Orban on winning the elections in Hungary. We look forward to working with our Hungarian friends to further develop our close partnership. #UKandHungary

More sensible political figures have responded to his remarks in this fashion:

Labour MP Peter Kyle of the pro-EU Open Britain group, said Mr Johnson's comments were "not worthy of his position as Foreign Secretary".
He said: "It seems there’s not a single authoritarian leader Boris Johnson won’t pander to in pursuit of his hard Brexit fantasy. Viktor Orban in Hungary is just the latest.
"This is all eerily reminiscent of Boris Johnson’s shameless sucking up to Donald Trump. It demeans our country and it’s not worthy of his position as Foreign Secretary.
"If Brexit means we are loosening ties with our traditional allies in Europe while cosying up to demagogues and populists across the world, people have every right to ask whether it’s really the right path for the country."

Former Labour minister Lord Adonis, of Best for Britain, said: "This is a deeply inappropriate statement by Boris Johnson. Viktor Orban is a dangerous man, whose anti-Semitism and Putin worship is a threat to democracies all over Europe. The best message he could send is to say we're staying in the EU and, alongside out European friends, will stand up to Orban's authoritarianism."

With all these wise , informed posts from Tom's heroes you would never guess Daily Mail could report this quite factually would you ?
"Theresa May is more popular than Jeremy Corbyn for the first time since the election as the Labour leader's ratings plummet after Salisbury and the anti-Semitism scandal"
( Source Yougov)

Trouble is folk are spending so much time and effort blaming May,BJ,, Murdock, right wing press they are missing the real problem.

Rather contradictory Flecc ? This commentator has a lower opinion of Putin than anyone on forum.

PS
Pray, explain Robdon. Has " yougov" got figures wrong or perhaps you think country wants people like Skinner and Galloway running country.Afraid that is a minority group.

It might be more akin to saying it was a hatchback of the type originally developed Renault , but beyond that we cannot be certain as to where it was manufactured....

So we are right to blame the right wing press!

It's their propaganda fake news that damages Jeremy Corbyn's popularity.

That is of course if the damage the Mail reports really is true. I've yet to hear thousands singing "Oh Theresa May".

No, you missed my point. Fact is Daily Mail dont have to print rubbish, the yougov findings are nothing to do with them. That damage is self inflicted.

My approval was for the criticism of Orban. He and his country are now in deep trouble with the EU and at risk of being ejected. That probably won't happen though, since the EU and USA would fear him leaving NATO and joining in an alliance with Russia. Coming on top of the shift that way in Turkey's position, that would be a disaster.

I'm afraid either we really are getting things terribly wrong, or Russia is getting things surprisingly right. Maybe it's a bit of both, but we in the West are cornering ourselves into traps now, like this Hungarian one.

So where are the thousands singing for May? YouGov are pollsters who have often got things very wrong.

May had a shock at the last election, but that's nothing compared to the one she'll have at the next one if she's still in her post. She probably won't be though, the Tories are unlikely to risk her again.

Time will tell. Its a strange time for opposition to be so less popular than the one in power...

let us hope that are not so stupid as to [get] involved
it's just that they may take us for stupids..
The current media blitz on chemical weapons in Syria reminded me the carpet coverage of Sadam Hussein and Gaddafi before we started bombing their countries.

And repeating it against Syria would be a third disaster creating another chaotic mess in the Arab world. As if it hadn't always been bad enough already.

However, I believe Putin would face them down over Syria. He isn't going to just give up his one position of strength in the Middle East. He's shown himself to be a master of the high stakes game and could scare the West over this issue if they push too far.
