Brexit, for once some facts.

Delusion in the Express
This is another example of pandering to the 'Brexidiots', the vast majority of whom have no idea why there exists such a mechanism as 'fishing quotas'

It's another 'Britannia rules the waves' headline entirely designed to grab the attention of exactly the kind of simpletons who fell for the lies by the right-wing extremists at the outset of the 'Brexit' campaign.

Such is the desperation of the tory party and their financial backers!

Just a little reminder what the EU has always been about
"

In 1951 The Europe Declaration, also known as the Charter of the Community, was a joint statement issued by the Foreign Ministers of West Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg in 1951.

The Declaration was issued at the signing of the Treaty of Paris, which created the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) based on the Schuman Plan, on 18 April 1951.

The Declaration said that the ECSC marked the birth of the Europe as a political, economic and social entity, reflecting the principles that Robert Schuman had announced in the Schuman Declaration of 1950.

It included the statement:"By the signature of this Treaty, the involved parties give proof of their determination to create the first supranational institution and that thus they are laying the true foundation of an organised Europe. This Europe remains open to all European countries that have freedom of choice. We profoundly hope that other countries will join us in our common endeavour."

So please, please no more corny arguments that we didn't know what we were getting into.
If you personally didn't know, then as the saying goes
"You should have gone to Specsavers"

I do agree 'flecc' and I firmly believe that H&S begins with the individual. Nonetheless, there are many circumstances where pre-emptive legislation is a necessity in order to protect everyone from exposure to risk, particularly the unwary, children, the elderly and infirm.

Some individuals simply don't have the wherewithal to cope safely in the big wide world, indeed there are some who shouldn't be allowed outside the house without an escort.

For some reason this reminds me of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:

Even better now that I'm awake.

Eskimos had over two hundred different words for snow, without which their conversation would probably have got very monotonous. So they would distinguish between thin snow and thick snow, light snow and heavy snow, sludgy snow, brittle snow, snow that came in flurries, snow that came in drifts, snow that came in on the bottom of your neighbor’s boots all over your nice clean igloo floor, the snows of winter, the snows of spring, the snows you remember from your childhood that were so much better than any of your modern snow, fine snow, feathery snow, hill snow, valley snow, snow that falls in the morning, snow that falls at night, snow that falls all of a sudden just when you were going out fishing, and snow that despite all your efforts to train them, the huskies have pissed on.

Quote from Mr Varoufakis:

Britain should apply for a five-year transitional arrangement to remain with the European Economic Area under “a Norway-style agreement” at the end of the three-year Brexit negotiations.
That will give everyone a sigh of relief and an opportunity primarily for the House of Commons in London to debate amongst themselves what on earth they want to do in the post-Brexit world.

His comment seems to be the most sensible at the moment.
No, mine are, Cancel Brexit

I had started to write one, how did you know? But, in the interests of good manners I didn't take it further.

How about this one?

“It seemed to me,” said Wonko the Sane, “that any civilization that had so far lost its head as to need to include a set of detailed instructions for use in a packet of toothpicks, was no longer a civilization in which I could live and stay sane.”

Sort of fits with those earlier 'discussions' on the value of EU laws?

Continuing with the current humorous theme, for those who may have missed the most recent edition of HIGNFY, here is the clip where the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs is rewarded with an accurate appraisal of his recent manoeuvres in support of a British citizen abroad in need of assistance from her government:

Wonderful Irony in the Daily Mail, who's owner in the late 1930's was in Favour of the Blackshirts, and surrendering to Hitler.

And now wants to give the appearance of being "Patriotic" timed to be close to Armistice day, but really intended to portray supporting Brexit is patriotic.
When in reality this reference to a glorious past is in support of it's Brexit propaganda intended to BETRAY the Nation once again.

And people who have no knowledge of History fall for this rubbish?
That the Daily Mail is Patriotic?

I'm guessing here but is 'PeterL' possibly a contraction of your real name and you chose do do it in that format rather than the alternative because your surname is 'Lonker'?

No it doesn't it is a worldwide phenonemon utterly unrelated to the EU.

Still waiting for the punchline as anything you buy these days includes detailed instructions and they are usually made in China.
What exactly is your point again?

So we shouldn't adopt metrication because our old fashioned ways are better?
You should try working out invoices in pounds, shillings and pence as I used to do, you would soon see the disadvantages
Where do you get these silly ideas from?

Zathlan has a point here, measurement units evolve which are natural and people like to deal in small numbers in terms of length the yard or the metre are both natural.. being about a stride or half term height of a person. . The inch about the length of a knuckle.. but the huge advantages of a unified measurement system like metric is that we can link everything together...

Could I paraphrase... H&S begins with the informed individual..... There are many hazards whose lethal attributes are not obvious. Why for instance did those boring electrical installers only use female contacts on wall plates, and them maybe even put switches on them and protection plates. Wouldn't life be more exciting if they mounted male connectors just like plug tops , with the live current available on the walls...

I discovered this 100% accurate (I'm told) online test for 'Brexidiots'.

https://www.joe.co.uk/life/prick-145028

In the interests of research, I tried it but it correctly revealed that I am incredibly rational and cannot be compared with the typical pro-'Brexit' animal the test was devised for.

Tom
You're so lacking in discernible prick tendencies, you're actually a prick because it. Either a lying prick, or so annoying nice, it makes you an annoying prick. Sort your life out.

Fairly sure that a few more weeks on here will sort me out.

Exactly right and why cant we use both systems when appropriate? Yes, obviously SI is easier for engineering ( but we didn't do badly with Whitworth/ AF etc)
Making people buy in undesired units is wrong.

Why is it some remainers ( not flecc/ Daniel) have taken brexit as an excuse to be so vindictive ? Perhaps Tom would like to offer his excuse ?
My spell check corrects to Daniel. ( sorry)
