Not that bad a scenario really: to forgo my Audi A8 for an A4 or just maybe an A6 (second-hand I might add). I'm a little more hopeful than that and feel fairly confident that we will end up with a reasonable trade deal and good relations with our EU neighbours. Not so sure that our trade, with the EU, can be dismissed as of little importance to middle Europe albeit the shenanigans in Spain will have distracted more than a few I'm sure. Lots of doom and gloom at the moment, especially in retail, but, that needs a real shake-up, as in my opinion. it has only been held in place over the past ten years or so by cheap imports from the far east. It was only ever a matter of time before rebalancing came into play - why not now and blame Brexit?
Positive Brexit....just bought my Audi A6 All Road,270ps....brand new car,£14,000 off list,is it Brexit or Anti-diesel or just cant sell new cars but that is a massive drop....no dodgy grey import, direct from an Audi dealer.
What was David saying 'every cloud has a silver lining',hehe
KudosDave

Be careful Kudos you,ll have the lefties up in arms buying cars like that..It is a lovely car mind. ( Not quite a Jag tho, in my Clarkson voice, the one where he mocks Arthur Daley types) ( wait for it, that will give Steb an opening...ahwell he needs a little charity now and again)

Yes, the car market very down at the moment, September was a big disappointment. The need for cash flow will probably produce some good opportunities.

Wider retail I'm convinced is in for a poor Christmas and by February the mood in the country likely to be depressed.

Completely OT but on car theme.
There was a stunning Merc SL 190 parked in harbour car park this morning. I know it was cheap ( relative) brother to 300 but that car must be amongst prettiest ever built...so I,d put up with its lowly 110 bhp ( a guess) and just savour admiring glances it gets. The owner I,m told has 2 of them..I want one...

OG/ Steb
Do you two really expect anyone to engage in offering alternative opinions to your own ? Or are you misguided enough to think your offerings are likely to change anyone's opinion ?
Your attitudes have simply strengthened those opinions you oppose.
( Apart from Stebs adholescent comment which was as near to a compliment as Steb knows..)
As for Audis. , had you been and driven XF you,d never get in an Audi...and the F type...well that's even better...but not much room for giving poor a lift to work house. But to be fair, never driven an R8...but that's a Lambo really...( well sort of)
Consistent and silly as ever, and full of your usual flair for having nothing to say, but many words to do it with.

Have you done anything positive to make up for Voting for Brexit yet? or have you changed your mind about that once again?

My interest in cars is simply that they are a tool that does a job, nothing more, nothing less.
The less money you waste on them, the better,

Agreed. It is posssible for one not to be desirable though. The owner of the last company I worked with had a 1950s SL300 gull wing, which should have been silver of course. But his was originally red and to make matters worse, at some time in its history it had been resprayed an insipid pastel shade of green, tragic. Hard to imagine a more inappropriate colour for such a car.

The European Union
This grabbed my attention: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/oct/29/sparkling-jobless-figures-mask-real-picture-uk-economy-unemployed
I happen to know how the French government fiddles with unemployment statistics so I doubt that the UK govt is any better.

Zero hour contract is unemployed according to many economists, I think you have a few thousand people on zero hour?

What to say about a full time job that doesn't bring in enough money to pay rent and food (choose one option in the list)? It isn't slavery because slaves get food and a roof of sorts. Luckily there are zero hour contracts or a second job flipping burgers so that after an 18 hour day you can JAM...

Never mind, brexit will save the day!

Membership of the EU has never been at the heart of the UK's decline as a productive, industrial powerhouse over the last half century. The tory party and their supporters are wholly responsible for that.

Capitalism works but only for some. Sadly, in the minds of the vast, vast majority of tories, there is no line that cannot be crossed in pursuit of wealth expansion and capitalism has just become another word for avarice.

These images exemplify that tragic reality:

I get called adholescent for comments about cars and you are putting your faith in a failed songwriter turned left wing shouter...Or perhaps we should elect Billy Bragg as PM...what a joke.
Who should we turn to in countries' hour of need. Corbyn ? May ? Lansdown ? Economists ? Mathematicians ? Entrepreneurs? Nope..Billy Bragg .
Who by the way , like all his ilk, does nothing but spout idealistic garbage, knocking Capitalism yet offering not a thing to replace it with.
You could appoint Frankie Boyle as his deputy. He,s same kind. Fostering approval by attacking system that made him rich..They are con men and you,ve fallen for it.
If we destroyed Capitalism tomorrow the entire planet would be in complete turmoil and financial meltdown the day after.
The world works on Capitalism. Unfortunate but true.

The world is failing because of capitalism. It isn't capitalism's fault, just the greedy SOBs who have twisted the rules so much that capitalism is no longer capitalism but a huge ponzi scheme. Speculation is not capitalism, it is capitalism's cancer which is eating it from within.

Oh and totalitarianism was never socialism nor communism either but it was very convenient during the cold war to gloss over details like that...

I agree, but there is no other system as of moment to replace it.
Such as Billy Bragg epitomise the situation. They eschew socialist values yet manage to accrue ( in his case) in excess of £5 million pounds. He lives in a mansion and made his cash selling music to essentially ( recently) the poorer amongst us. Its hypocritical to the extreme on his part.( There was even a petition asking him to leave his village for exactly this). Its idealistic in the extreme to suggest our world could exist without capitism. Richard Branson will be a socialist next. ( had to rush post , going to gate in airport)
Billy Bragg and many like him make fortunes in our capitalist system yet then knock the very system they enjoy...and hang on to their ill gotten gains with a vengeance. ( Ask Frankie Boyle how much he wants for an appearance)

Agreed. But Billy Bragg , Frankie Boyle and others like them are part of the problem, not the solution. They are worse than the greedy SOB you mention.

You are an amazing fellow without realising it ( as usual) you have inverted your argument!

Billy Bragg doesn't eschew Socilist values he professes them

eschew
ɪsˈtʃuː,ɛsˈtʃuː/
verb
verb: eschew; 3rd person present: eschews; past tense: eschewed; past participle: eschewed; gerund or present participle: eschewing
deliberately avoid using; abstain from.
"he appealed to the crowd to eschew violence"
synonyms: abstain from, refrain from, give up, forgo, forswear, shun, renounce, swear off, abjure, steer clear of, have nothing to do with, give a wide berth to, fight shy of, relinquish, reject, dispense with, disavow, abandon, deny, gainsay, disclaim, repudiate, renege on, spurn, abnegate, abdicate, wash one's hands of, drop

In the World of the Brexiter do other words have opposite menings too?

So, tell us how would you describe yourself at this stage in your life? Cheerful perhaps... unlikely of course and whilst I appreciate that you don't like a drink, surely you don't expect us to think that this is normal conversation, not even for you.

Every time something like this happens another nail is Driven into the coffin of Brexit.
Good news for KudosDave it's true, and good luck to him, but.......
When the people at the bottom see this sort of thing going on, the level of resentment will rise exponentionally , and the gulf between the poor and the well to do widen.

There will come the point when they ask why is this happening? we voted for Brexit to stop this sort of thing , give a warning to the Government it had to do what we want, and make our lives better!
"They" get fancy cars, we can't feed the kids and pay the bills!

And no Government of any persuasion is going to be able to make the problem go away, are they?
Dangerous!

Yes, there is something in this OG and I certainly do not like to see deprivation anywhere and in my little way I, along with a few others, do try to do something about it here in Dundee. I think I alluded to both the problem and the solution in an earlier post. It is all about Community, as simple as that. Nothing to do with others having more money, bigger cars and the people, even poor ones, can cope with that, even understand it. They certainly do need to be housed. fed and properly clothed, they also need something to do, a purpose in life. Their kids need to be educated and given a ambitious view of life, one where they can also do well for themselves. That is where the focus should be not some silly attempt to bring down anyone fortunate enough to have the good things in life.

And that is entirely my point: providing for everyones needs has proved beyond the capability of all recent governments, and not only that they have no commitments to change things for the better, with the added handicap of dealing with a situation created by Brexit where they have no plans, no talent, no resources, and no intention of making a success economically or socially, merely hoping to do damage limitation, and prolong the poor state of the people at the bottom of society that the Brexit Voters wanted changed for the better.

It's not good enough to tell them not to be jealous of those who have the good things in life, as they see those people getting richer and themselves getting poorer.
If Brexit doesn't deliver the better times to them and quickly, all hell will break out.
