Risk of getting your bike stolen in London?

By definition then London must be at least four times as ”scummy” as anywhere else.

Help! Winter is eating my bike alive.

I painted all of the bolt and screw heads on my bike, when new, with Hammerite matt black, making sure to get inside of the Allen key recesses.

    3000 trouble free miles

You asked if all Shimano motors behaved like the Merida ones and I replied that in my opinion they do. That seems like an answer to your question. As for your opinion, yes you are correct. If anything that I test has problems then it is a bad buy.

Hub or Mid Drive? Any views?

Perhaps I should put my CX motor into a pillow case next time I put it in the washer.

    bosch question

When I had my EMTB mode removed at my local bike shop there was nothing referring to tampering in the software report. I specifically looked.

    Heads-up! 2019 Ebco centre-drive e-bikes £1099 (£500 off).

Just as a matter of interest, I imagine a motor cut-off to be just that, like a light switching off. Are you implying that some motors do this in phases like cutting to half power or quarter power before the big cut-off. Not trying to be funny here ( you have to be careful on this forum) just a...

    3000 trouble free miles

After my experience I have to assume they do. I think it is called a judgment call before parting with your money. Perhaps your views would be more lenient, each to his own.

    bosch question

This could have been bought in November 2018 so old motor and no problem derestricting. I believe it is the Gen 4 motors for 2020 that will have problems.

Same motor, which is what I was discussing.

    3000 trouble free miles

To be fair the OP didn’t say that he was just commuting to work. He could have been solely using the bike in bike parks with mud and or sand. Possibly doing long uphills on full power. Two of us recently hired new Marida bikes in Spain which had the Shimano motors. They were a pain in the ar##...

    Ebco ebikes.

It may be they haven't got around to fixing the site, but in today's market being offline even for a few hours sends out all the wrong signals. My NatWest online site was down for repairs a couple of weekends ago and this isn’t the first time. Now I’m worried.

    Close passing

That is almost exactly my interpretation of " ownership of the road". I will be in what I think is a save place to make progress and will not be bullied by cars into moving into the gutter where there is a chance of hitting a grate or catching my pedal on the curb. My aim is not to occupy the...

    Close passing

I don’t know why you want my opinion on horse riders but, I think that horse riders tend to “own the road” more than cyclists. I also think that cars have a lot more consideration when passing them. I wasn’t making any comparisons, just stating what I had been told.

    Interesting Electric bike

Nice trailing link looking fork but at my age I’d never remember what all of the switches were for.

    Close passing

Rightly or wrongly, whilst on a police motorcycle training course, the officer told me to use all of my side of the road and “own the road”. This may or may not apply to a cyclist but he should certainly assert his rite to be there.

Yes my bike was insured and they payed out promptly, within two weeks. Two months later it was spotted by a cycle forum member for sale in a Cash Converters. I informed the insurers and they asked if I could go pick it up along with the police. They then asked if I would like to make them an...

I agree that the cable locks are next to useless and knew that, unfortunately all of my riding is off road on a EMTB and is an average of 35 to 40 miles. It’s just the coffee stop that the problem. I have one of those abus flat link things but it is almost as heavy as the battery and awkward to...

    re-chargable tyre pump

It looks like the left hand valve in your photo is clogged up with slime from the inner tube. Whenever my tyres go flat I always remove and clean the valve which is always clogged with the fibrous stuff. Also I always position the valve at the 4 o’clock or 8 o’clock position when pumping to stop...

Like you Andy I thought that this same alarm was a good idea and probably still is. Unfortunately the thief who stole my bike, in a very busy street, didn’t seem perturbed as he rode away with me giving chase and the alarm doing what alarms do. He soon lost me and probably ripped the alarm off...
