The 'S" class sounds just the job to blast to work. I assume that this is road only under power. If I need to jump into a cycle path, I could presumably switch off the power and use it as a pedal cycle? Few questions: 1: What size is the requried registation plate? I imagine something around...

    Battery position

In my opinion, several solutions will be required. That is until battery technology moves ahead and gives us batteries a 1/4 of the current size. It is always going to be preferable to keep the weight, low down and central. Particularly on bikes required to have sharp, fast handling. In...

Think the youngsters call it street cred and of course we are all young at heart! Good to hear that you are looking at the trendy aspect, I think any manufacturer ignores this aspect at their peril. You are right, using throttle only would use much more power. I have no interest in...

Make e-bikes a little trendy and zippy and the youngsters will buy them. Worked for the motorbike industry, scooters designed to look sporty and appeal to the youngsters. Reasonably slow but the youngsters love them. Same could happen with e-bikes. As far as other European countries...

Flecc Annoyingly, what you have said makes total sense. However if e-bikes are to appeal to all ages, then bikes with higher performance will be required. Not talking of 50mph. 20, maybe 25mph. It is to the benefit of society in general if people can be moved away from cars and onto clean...

Point taken on the kinetic energy. Better brakes would solve this issue to a certain extent. If I were designing the e-bike concept on day one, I'd have thought about it a little more and reversed the concept. It is generally fairly easy to cycle un assisted at 10-15mph. At 15mph ish wind...

Solid / Puncture Proof Tyres any advice please?

Apologies for assuming that you were fully functioning. I can now see your dilemma. I'd still recommend the Marathons. Solids just do not give the road holding required to remain safe.

Solid / Puncture Proof Tyres any advice please?

Schwalbe Marathon Plus , the best puncture resistant tyres on the market. In my opinion. However, what is the big deal? It takes, probably 10 minutes to fix a puncture, with the wheel on. If the wheel needs to come off for a new tube, use a spanner and disconnect the motor. Surely, this most...

My point being, it does not matter if 20mph is achieved by leg power alone or electrical assistance. 20 mph is 20 mph. Even if pushed but the wind it is still 20 mph. As long as the speed is within normal leg powered parameters it's not even worth making it an issue. To make an issue over...

    Bosch bikes under £1600??

Wissy Have been using my Macina 29 for 2 weeks now. Brilliant bike in all respects, off road and on road. Not sure of your distance requirements or level of hills. Have been using mine off road lately, thick mud and very hilly. 20-25 mile range. About as tough as you could get for an...

Gary, you are correct. You can pedal any speed you like over 15mph. Question is, why would you want to do this on a heavy e-bike? I'd rather use the battery, after all that's why I bought it in the first place. Do you not find it odd that we live in a world where, in some countries it is ok...

    Gepida Alboin 1000 CRS Harmony(2013)

Have looked at the Gepida range of off road bikes, they look good. Not keen on the inverted Bosch drive but other than that, they look great. Always been a fan of KTM as I use to race KTM motocross so that may have something to do with my choice.

From what I see, kalkhoff range, do not restict themselves to the legal 15.5mph. Correct me if I am wrong anyone. This may be a consideration if your journey time is important. As I have found out, set at 15, 16mph takes it takes me longer to get to work than my non powered hybrid. This...

    Gepida Alboin 1000 CRS Harmony(2013)

Dave Purchased a Macina 29. Closest thing to a real mountain bike as far as geometry and balance is concerned. Hech, you ought to try one, in a different class to a Bighit, plus its 8kg lighter. Did a 20 mile off road trip today. Thickest of mud and deep puddles in places. Motor pulled...

    Chinese crank drives,throttles and gears.

Dave, you are right. Develop a system to ramp up progressively and the gearing systems will not be wrecked. Soft start could be configurable by dip switches or pre programmed.

    Bosch Crank DIY, Possible?

The gng looks interesting but obviously still in the prototype stages. Shall not be buying one nor building my own. I was just curious as to why people were not going down the crank route. Thanks all, now I have a pretty good idea why.

    Bosch Crank DIY, Possible?

Not sure that I would buy the welder. More likely outsource the welding for a few quid. Well, I guess from the lack or responses that the answer would be nobody trying this conversion as yet. Either that or the Bosch system is not available separately.
