    Bosch Crank DIY

Having listened to your reply and searched other threads, seems like the 500w Bafang CST is the favourite. Rocky Mountain looks great by the way. 103alex, many thanks for all your input, costs and advice. May be back to ask specific questions when I progress this project. As a note, I have...

Frank, I suspect that the weight of your kits may be a issue. What kg would I be looking at?

Do any of your 'tour' on pedelecs without any other vehicle?

In the middle of planning a tow path tour. 5 days in July. Hope to do 40 to 50 mile per day. Call it a min tour. Our 1st on e bikes. It will be interesting. I am sure that with a midday day battery charge over a long lunch, the mileage could be doubled. Shall be posting our experiences after...

Hi all Hypothetical question at the moment. 10kg, non electric hybrid. Rim and not disk brake setup. 700C wheels. Black hubs, spkes and rims. Wish to add a read hub drive (500w?) throttle control only. Would prefer the hub drive to be black an not silver. Must be good for 22 mph, assisted on...

20mph speed limit -applies to bikes ?

I just miss the days when one could take three planks of wood, a few nails and a pair of pram axles and wheels. A few friends building go carts, the biggest hill around and stupid speeds. Great fun. What health and safety? Not one mention of speed limits, EN numbers, seizing of go carts...

Now that I (almost) belong I can ask questions ;) Aka Rioja ramblings

Knobblies are pretty puncture resistant but much much slower tyres than something like the Marathons

Inflating your tyres off your bike battery

Being realistic, probably takes 4-5 amps as the pressure gets up. So actually a quick pump up wouldn't take much. As you say, volume on a cycle is very small.

Inflating your tyres off your bike battery

Yes, will work fine as long as you have schrader car type valves of and adaptor if presta valves. You will however find it flattens your battery somewhat and you have to pedal home without the motor.

20mph speed limit -applies to bikes ?

Frank, lower limits in town are needed and have been for many years. Speaking for myself who, over the years has had a few speeding fines and points, I spend far too much time looking at the speedo. I think, paranoid is the word. One of the reasons I rarely use my motorcycle in this...

    Bosch bikes under £1600??

Personally, I'd go with the KTM, not least because I'v not long bought my Macina 29 and its great. Larger battery of the two is a bonus. To me, looking at the AVE, the rear triangle of the frame looks most odd. Dunno why bt would bother me.

20mph speed limit -applies to bikes ?

Yep, absolutley right. It is never going to happen. Does not mean that I or anyone else has to be happy with the situation, just accept best possible. The technogy exists for engine management systems to be linked with gps position and mapped against current speed limits. Car can...

20mph speed limit -applies to bikes ?

I agree, motorists will spend more time checking the speedo. I'd rather everyone looked at the road ahead. There will be more rear enders especially in fixed camera spots. Lets see a proper scientific study of driver eye movements / focus when driving in and out of these camera ridden...

    To all our trade members

Totally agree. When someone says they have a good sized budget and wish to aquire a high end bike, why should a dealer feel it appropriate to provide details of a budget shopper. Dealers, please appreciate that some are looking for a functional budget option, others have very specific...

Most definitely a ******. A real shame, just got to get over the first few hurdles. Obviously easier said than done. I truly believe that a reasonably large and untapped marked does exist.

Whilst not part of Europe, an American could bring his car over here. Would not be allowed to bring his gun, far too dangerous. Much like the S Pedelec. Oh , and should you end up with the KTM, I don't think you would be disappointed. I'll keep an eye out for episode two.

Wissy, most interesting reading not only your posts but the many and varied responses. Your are certainly doing your homework but am I the only one frustrated by the fact that you are not yet riding up the mountain on your perfect bike? Can't wait for episode two, the one when you new bike...
