non pneumatic tyres - good investment?

Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres aren't 100% puncture-proof, but are as close as you're going to get. Cheaper than your alternative too. To be ultra-safe, you could also use Slime inner tubes. That's a bit like using a condom whilst on the pill though.

Just took delivery of my first e-bike and guess what...

I once overtook a courier with a Deliveroo box; boy, did he not like that. He snapped onto my tail and was there inches off my rear wheel. I now know how to swiftly change the Oxygen from Eco to Power mode, did so, and left him for dust up the hill I knew was coming. There was another eejit who...

    Oxygen v Ophelia!

I rarely use anything other than Eco mode, but it was set to Power on the way home today. I was riding into the wind homewards, but yes, the worst of it was a stretch where the wind came sweeping over some bare fields and blew me slightly off kilter.

Hi Jon, Nice neck of the woods you live in. Enjoy the bike and don't be afraid to name & shame :) Andy

    Oxygen v Ophelia!

I rode home today in some very blustery conditions. Although we aren't bearing the brunt of Ophelia here in Warwickshire, there were a couple of more open stretches that really buffeted me around. I think my bulk (85Kg) and the weight of my Oxygen eMate actually helped keep me in a straightish...

    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

All I can say about the bike, other than it is performing spot on, is that there is a slow puncture on the front wheel. I have to pump it up every couple of days after it loses about 20PSI. I do have a spare tube and I could change it, but the tyre is a devil to get on & off and I'm waiting...

Why isn't this PAS more common?

I can't answer that, but it works on my Panda Pro FWD kit. Do you have a splined BB cup? You need that for the PAS housing to be pushed into.

Why isn't this PAS more common?

The larger photo of the entire kit shows a 'normal' 2-part PAS, but it's good that you give the option.

Why isn't this PAS more common?

My point is that this is, IMO, vastly superior technology to the 2-part solution most providers send out. Why use a disc that is vulnerable to movement when an all-in-one solution is available?

Why isn't this PAS more common?

I've bought conversion kits from three different suppliers and all had the magnetic disc and pick-up PAS. Those are vulnerable to the disc moving and the pick up too. The one pictured above is much less vulnerable. IIRC Woosh supplied me with an after-market Kunteng one to fit to my Sirocco back...

Why isn't this PAS more common?

I've just replaced the split-disc Panda PAS with one of these. On the face of it, it seems such a tidy and clever solution that I can't understand why it isn't more commonly used in kits. OK, you need to have a splined BB cup, but they're quite common. Any ideas?

    Panda Pro/Orbit Orion Conversion

So, an update: I haven't meaningfully touched the bike since my last post. The Automatix hub wasn't a good fit for my knees, so I tried fitting the derailleur set up, but realised the brakes didn't suit. So today I took the Alfine wheel into the LBS to get the broken spoke replaced and have the...

    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

If I try to connect the charger to the battery in-situ with it switched off, I get a spark. If the battery is switched on, I don't.

    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

I had cause to take off the battery yesterday. I realised that it's a job that requires three hands! One to hold the battery & two to separate the connector! Anyway, my two hands just about coped. After charging the battery up at work (thanks guys!), I reconnected it and asked a colleague to...

    PAS Wiring Question

My Pando Pro kit's PAS Sensor has a very short cable. Too short for the proposed place the controller is going to sit. I have an all-in-one Kunteng BB-fitting PAS - the type that slides into the BB splines. It has a much longer cable that would fit my plans and is a far better solution IMO. A...

Need for 8mi one way commute want style and ease

Starting from rest with the throttle puts a lot of strain on the electrics. Putting some effort in from a standstill will help greatly, then let the throttle kick in.

Need for 8mi one way commute want style and ease

Nice looking bike though it is, it'll weigh 25Kg+ with the battery. That's a heavy beast to carry up five steps. This one: http://www.oxygenbicycles.com/e-bikes/s-cross-st will be a lot more nimble and has a higher capacity battery than the Gazelle for £100 less.

    Government subsidize

I liked the fact that they used to sand the cyclepaths in winter in Umea. I gave up once it stayed below -15C, but it was a good way of getting around there. Anyway, now it's firm action, only good things can come from it. I was toying with the idea of doing a Gota Kanal ride one year with my...

    Government subsidize

It's only a budget proposal as far as I can see. Umea had great cycle lanes when I was there 20+ years ago & things can only have improved.
