The power to make cycling make sense

I sold my car last year. Granted we still have a car in the family but it's great not having to join in the rat race every morning. In fact my journey is only 8 minutes more on the bike than in the car and a lot less stress!

The power to make cycling make sense

The US is going to have a major problem on its hands over the coming decades. 25% of global oil production is used by them alone and as you say Stuart, the car is king. At some point though oil/gas production will peak and then we will begin the decline which will wreak havoc with our economies...

Interesting news article posted on the net yesterday (source: Reuters) : BEIJING • A ban on battery-powered bicycles in the southern China city of Guangzhou has left tens of thousands of owners grounded without compensation and angered vendors who face lost business, local media reported...

    I love my electric bike!

I find I do get annoyed with the wind if I can't do 22mph! But, if I relax and let the speed drop to 15-18mph the bike has no problem whatsoever and it then becomes an effortless ride home.

    Cycle Storage

Are the bikes valuable? (obv. the electric bike is!) It might be worth talking to your insurer to find out what kind of storage they would insure. When I enquired with CycleGuard they told me unless the bike was fixed to an immovable object they would add on a rather large excess.

The power to make cycling make sense

I believe there are a number of things converging that will require us to completely change our way of life, including but not limited to, climate change, fossil fuel depletion etc.. While electric bikes don't completely solve the problem of needing an energy source to charge the batteries...

The power to make cycling make sense

Hi Scott, I'm disappointed that David Cameron hasn't taken up your offer, but then I suspect he probably isn't aware of it personally! I don't think electric bikes will really hit the mainstream until the general population is really feeling the pain from high energy prices. It will take a...

The power to make cycling make sense

Hi Marian, welcome aboard and glad you are enjoying your electric bike! I've found people to be very curious of my electric bike and like you, some have had a whizz up the road and have been very impressed with the performance. Unfortunately, none of them have taken the plunge themselves bar...

Hi Jaytee, there is a little bit of information already in the Torq FAQ but it probably needs to be expanded and adding photos is a great idea!

Torq Problem: Offset front wheel - sticking vee brake - fork shudder

Jaytee, check that there isn't any play in the headset when you depress the brakes and push the bike forward and then pull back repeatedly. If there is even any slight movement in the forks this will accentuate the problem. I don't get any juddering now on my Torq and I have the Diacompe levers.

    Accessory and Apparel Recommendations

Usually it happens once :) The shoes I use, you give a small twist with your foot and the clip comes free. You can adjust the spring to make it as loose or tight as you like. They do enable you to put a little more effort in as in effect, as while one foot is pushing down on the pedal, the...

Latest / New / Prototype Bikes

Hi John, for all intents and purposes I believe the Schwinn bike is identical to the Diavelo. Note that the Euro spec Schwinn is 250W but the US version is 400W. As per your note about Moore Large, the distributor, both would have be ordered in for you from the US whichever spec you go for...

    Accessory and Apparel Recommendations

John, one thing I like about cycling shoes is that many of them are suitable for pedals that they can clip into e.g. SPD. The benefit being you can pull the pedal up as well as push down.

    Adding a second motor

For the bike on eBay (which seems to have sold now btw) I would be interested to hear how both motors are controlled. Are they independent of one another? If so, that is a pretty complicated setup and could be quite interesting in an emergency stop situation!
