I'm stating the obvious here, but for anyone that doesn't know, the 40kg limit is for the bike only!

The power to make cycling make sense

I can see where you are coming from Stuart. We have an unusual situation in that you can pedal a bike faster than the legally assisted limit. Obviously folk on e-bikes or motorbikes can't go faster as they don't have any pedals. I would rather see the law concentrate on preventing youths...

The power to make cycling make sense

With electric bikes or more specifically, pedelecs, we have the unique situation where the rider is able to propel the bicycle faster than the legal motorised speed limit. I agree on an upper wattage limit, but a speed limit is absurd!

From the ashes of the Djavelo rises the Schwinn Continental !

Yes, it would be good to see some reports of real experiences with them. Apparently the designer of the Diavelo subsequently went to work for Schwinn after designing it (although it appears there were other Diavelo bikes preceding this one - see here ) Schwinn have said the initial allocation...

From the ashes of the Djavelo rises the Schwinn Continental !

Schwinn told me this afternoon that the designer of the Diavelo also designed the new Schwinn range of electric bikes! So my gut feeling is you won't see a seperate Diavelo design, most likely a rebadged Schwinn.

Hi all, I'm currently working on a Buyer's Guide on the main site which will allow potential electric bike owners to narrow down the full range of bikes available according to certain criteria. The resulting tables will then show all the specs for further cross-examination and links to the...

Interesting, it does sound like a good idea for a feature as they are gadgets after all! Is the show repeated?

    Bought Urban Mover UM36

Hi Jonathan, looks nice! It should more than cope with your 4-mile commute. The only thing I would change is to fit some decent puncture resistant tyres such as the Schwalbe Marathon Plus. cheers Russ.

Latest / New / Prototype Bikes

Hi John, I believe the first production run of these bikes was completed recently after a lengthy development. They are not cheap, at least $5000 dollars (!). There are a few videos on the net showing its hill climbing capabilities. The Yahoo Power-Assist forums has a long-running discussion...

    new lithium bike tdeo12

Regarding no standard rack, I used to ride an MTB style electric bike. I've forgotten the name of the company (I'll dig it out) but I was able to buy a rack suitable for a dual-suspension bike. This got around the problem of having no standard rack mounting points and worked very well for the...

    new lithium bike tdeo12

It's interesting that we are starting to see bikes being marketed with 250W motors. While the UK regulations say 200W maximum, Europe is 250W. I can't imagine anything other than a test case sorting that issue out, but it looks like companies are getting bolder following the EU regs.

Webwatch: China's love affair with the car continues

Another interesting titbit for you: China Bicycle Association estimates there are an astounding 800 companies manufacturing electric bikes in China alone. Quite incredible! In fact, the whole article is a great read although quite long and over a...

The power to make cycling make sense

As Flecc, said biofuels and hydrogen will not solve our problems. Biofuels just require too much land mass and hydrogen is an energy carrier. We will have to face up to the fact that at some point we will all have to power down (excellent book by the same title if anyone is interested). Air...
