    Short distance commuter hill climber

The Flat Earth in Codicote would be worth a trip. They have a good selection of bikes at a spread of prices.

    Still can't decide

Halfords, in my opinion, is one of the least able to demonstrate a good range of bikes. I'm surprised they even offered you a test ride. I'd suggest you find a specialist retailer reasonably near you and spend some time trying a few more. We find folk prepared to travel an hour to the best...

Which bikes have you tried so far Mr G?

Hill climbing with throttle kalkhoff alternative

Not strictly true since the introduction of torque sensor systems combined with hub motors , which have started to appear. Reviews are few but those who have tried them report equivalent responsiveness. The Wisper TQ is an excellent example.

    Winnats Pass.

Oh, that's just too subtle... very good! :)

Hill climbing with throttle kalkhoff alternative

...and you can try the 705 Torque just south of Manchester at our Trade Centre which you can find listed here, with local hills, our Juicy range and Raleigh too. You'd be very welcome to compare all.

    Strange disc brake phenomenon

Spray on Isopropyl Alcohol onto the rotor surface and wipe it off. Best to keep away from the brake pads, lungs, little children etc. Quite expensive, especially in specialist bike shop form, but is available on Fleabay.

    Winnats Pass.

Winnats is lovely, especially from a hang glider above - I used to fly there regularly, pre-menieres. We have a customer in his eighties, a lifelong keen cyclist whose very first ride out on one of our early Sports was up Winnats (and beyond). He came back to our shop in Buxton to tell us all...

News: Juicy launch the Poco, their new smaller step-through

Thanks Tony. We think it will account for 10% of sales, judging by those customers who find the regular Classic just a little too tall but prefer the ride of a larger wheel.

Raleigh Forge vs Ebco ucr 30

I can't comment on the bikes themselves. But I do know that Raleigh are asking all their stockists to provide service to all Raleigh owners, whether a local customer or not. Our own shops sell very few Raleighs but we are required (happily of course) to be called upon should any Raleigh ebike...

Failed on my first big hill

Hi Kevin I know Cromford Hill very well. The Wisper uses a combination of Torque sensor and Cadence sensor. Above has been explained that, unlike a Cadence sensor the Torque sensor requires effort from you - and Cromford, after 20 miles of riding will test your fitness! However, in the top...

    Is that the case?

    Disappointed.....

Have you checked the fuses in the battery? One should be there to protect the charging circuit. Perhaps Volt have an online manual that might help. Don't be discouraged. Electric bikes in general are brilliant.

Not a lot. My point was general. Try to avoid harsh braking...

A good, reliable folding bike or other - budget £1400

You've masses of choice Zenton! Several companies and their representatives advertising on these forums will be along very soon to advise. Best thing you can do at this stage is to form your own opinions via a test ride as each bike is as different as each rider. I witnessed a customer...

    Electric bike spoke breaks frequently

I think there is a small, but possibly significant difference between brake types in how braking forces are applied through a bike. The "route" a braking force passes along can avoid spokes better if braking is applied at the rim. It seems to me that with rim brakes, friction force between...

I'm all for transparency but only for a constructive outcome. If the company concerned has learned something from the feedback then so much the better.
