Hi all
Still looking for my first e bike, thanks for all the replies, does anyone have any thoughts on the trek powerfly +5
It's an awful lot of money at £1900, but it looks like a well spec bike and I also like the mid drive

Hi,I've only tried halfords crossfire, but I have to say even a bike limited to 15mph goes quite well

Halfords, in my opinion, is one of the least able to demonstrate a good range of bikes. I'm surprised they even offered you a test ride.
I'd suggest you find a specialist retailer reasonably near you and spend some time trying a few more. We find folk prepared to travel an hour to the best retailers we supply.
Our electric bike retailers can easily be found here...

All legal bikes are assistance capped at 15 mph.
Test the bike without power the better it runs unpowered the easier it is on the assist system.
And test test test ride.

Lancing, on the South Downs.
It depends how you are going use it. If you are doing any off road riding, defiantly go for a full suspension bike to even out the bumps. With the ease of an ebike you can do longer runs, and a full suspension bike will be a lot more comfortable.
I got a Trek Powerfly+ FS7 with the 500Ah Battery, I love it, its a great bike, good spec, and not to bad to ride with no assistance.
I also tested a Giant full sus, and the Trek Hardtail, and a couple of Haibikes, Very pleased with my purchase, I think I made the correct choice, as I do a reasonable amount of off road riding, but not major downhills, jumps etc.

I don't find it no big deal or effort completing long off road rides on either type of bike.

Whilst FS has a comfort and traction advantage, it also has a maintenance and weight disadvantage.

Gooner, where are you based?

The FS hardtail choice is very much determined by type of offroading you are doing. Writing off either is a mistake. Both have advantages.
In nearlly everycase the hardtail will come with better cycle parts/ front forks at a given price. If you aren't doing drops , crossing deep ruts and generally stick to well worn smoothish tracks hard tail is probably better. If your tracks are those horrible sized stones, not big enough to have to avoid but small enough tocause vibration a fat bike ( with no susp) could be answer.
I settled ( literally) on hardtail Haibike and prefer its feeling on the tracks I prefer. Don't like really technical harsh single track, love the faster fire track type..hard tail excells on these. Can feel sluding/ loosing traction etc ..
Climbing efficiency hard tail everytime, even in ebike.
Have a good look at tracks you like and buy bike best suited to those.
Which CD you get is almost irrelevant. All work fine. I chose Yam , which is almost indistinguishable from new CX Bosch. Liked Thron CD but not keen on bike,( but its fine, just preferred look / build of Haibike)

My full sus ord mtb is a pig for climbing with ..Went back to hardtails 3 years ago...Horses for courses..

Hi, I'm based in Bedford, and I wouldn't Be doing any real off road riding, mainly cycle tracks and a bit of road use, I'm looking at the trek because I've got a £900 cycle scheme voucher on it's way and am able to put the rest to it, I think trek are a good make and I like the idea of mid drive, I haven't been able to find any bad reviews and it would be a known brand, for most people this bike would be over kill, but I've had heart surgery and it would get me out and able to go further, I've got a good quality drone and it would be nice to get in the countryside and shoot some video and take some stilks
