was the largest nimh cell that exists?

The Toyota Prius hybrid petrol-electric car uses NiMh batteries for short term energy storage, I have no details but am sure that they are of a much higher capacity than a typical car battery, especially considering the fact that they are lightly loaded to maximise life. On an even larger...

    My Agutta Has Landed

Chris, your comments about customers and complaints are spot on in my experience.

    Battery type and power

I think, if the voltages were the same it's very doubtful that Li-Po batteries would actually give better performance than LA types other than the performance gain from the considerable weight saving, however the voltages will not be the same. The voltage of Li-Po cells is rather different to...

    Keep your battery warm

Another battery life reducing factor in e-bikes is the fact that even a moderate loss of capacity will render the battery useless for many users purposes. A mobile phone or laptop battery, and possibly a police transceiver battery will still be perfectly usable at 30% of its original capacity...

    Torq battery dilemma

It's interesting that the manufacturers felt the need to modify the BMS, having constantly denied that cutouts are a problem.

    Reflectives

Death Wish This evening I saw (only just) a cyclist dressed entirely in black, on a black bike with no lights or reflectors riding on a poorly lit 40mph road. Later on the same journey I saw another cyclist dressed in dark non-reflective clothing with no lights (this one did have a red rear...

    LED Headlamp

Not at all Haku, a different approach that's all, I went for sheer weight of numbers to beat the darkness into submission! It's reflected in the current consumption of 180mA though, but still negligible really. You point about positioning LEDs at different angles is a good one, I slightly...

    Help finding a post

The use of DeWalt A123 batteries has been discussed many times on this forum and it has come to light there are a number of obstacles to their use They are not actually 36V having 1 less cell than comparable bike batteries making the actual voltage around 33V rendering them unsuitable for many...

    Convince me to stay electric

Compared to that experience the minor problems with junior would-be yobs in my local park pale into insignificance.

I could do with some to fend of the chavs in the local park.

    No motor

Jeanette, batteries for Ezee bikes are only available from Ezee distributors, which in the UK is 50cycles. Batteries from any other source or intended for any other brand are unlikely to be suitable unless you have the technical skills to adapt them.

    Night lighting idea

Nice idea Flecc, it could be extended by using a lamp with ultra-violet LEDs and wearing phosphorescent clothing which would then glow. A bit late for Halloween though.:D My own circumstances warrant a different type of lighting, the main hazards on my nocturnal journeys across the local...

    Torq battery dilemma

Further to my last post about re-celling it's quite likely that cells from different manufacturers will vary slightly in size from the nominal D size, cells only 1mm shorter than mine would fit comfortably but cells 1mm taller would not fit at all. Unfortunately I didn't record the exact size of...

    No motor

There are 3 "bullet" type connectors under the sleeving as well as the multi-way connector, that is probably what you can feel. You could carefully cut away the sleeving to check and re-seat the connectors. but as the bike has recently been repaired you may prefer to contact 50cycles.

8 flashes means a faulty hall effect sensor in the motor, re-seat the connector by the RH fork leg, the multi-way one with the thin wires.

    Torq battery dilemma

Having re-celled an Ezee battery I can say that space inside is very limited, the main body of the case has just enough room for the 6 vertical sticks of 5 cells with room for one more between the detents at the top. The cells I used were originally tagged but the tags had to go as their...

    No motor

That is possible Aron, if the throttle sensor output was abnormal or disconnected the controller LED would flash an error code. However if the throttle gives a normal output but does not change, the controller will not detect that. Has the bike worked since the throttle was removed? If the...

    Raleigh Deutschland uber Agutta

Are you sure these bikes really are the same? Close comparison of the pictures shows some minor differences in the front forks and brakes and Radwelt-Scherer quote the gewicht (weight) of the Leicester E as 24.9Kg, a good 4kg heavier than the Kalkhoff Agattu. While they are obviously both based...
