Just wondering if anyone has come up with good reflective ideas. I found this black reflective material on Wiggle which seems to light up in the dark, and am wondering what others have come up with (if anything) to improve visability.

Hi,

I use a HI Vis anorak like they use in the police force etc. I don't care if I look a plonker as long as they can see me. It is ideal in the rain and it was on special offer for £9.99 plus VAT

a real bargain.

Looks like a bargain Marina, better a live plonker than another dead cyclist! Personally, I wouldn't want to wear one on a non electric bike, could end up buying lots of deodorant:eek:

What about a logo on the back like POLITE, looks like POLICE from a distance? Or on the other hand it might make you a target:eek:

John;)

The wife was reminding me about being seen and safe just the other day.
Just visited Wiggle (not into stars) but just bought one of those Endura Gridlock Waterproof Jackets.
With only one bicycle shop in the town prices for these sort of things can be high - so thankyou JohnInStockie for the link.

No worries Footie. you will have to let me know what you think of that jacket. I have the Altura Night vision, and although quite visable, its got some faults.

I've emailed Endura twice asking if they plan to introduce a reflective version of the eVent jacket, but they didnt answer unfortunately.

I am having strange ideas, I have lots of green reflective tape from eBay and I am thinking of doing a large alien shape and posting it on a stick at the back, or else perhaps, a windmill with reflective tape, perhaps even a twirly spiral, I think the alien sounds most interesting....

My local 'workwear' shop sells bright yellow fleeces with reflective tape sown on. Probably less sweaty than the plastic waterproof jackets.

Just managed to escape from IKEA:eek: But they are selling adult size reflective vests for £3.99 or £2.99 if you are an IKEA family member:eek:
Is that a bargino? They are called PATRULL IKEA | Children's IKEA | Safety products | PATRULL

Just in case anybody thinks this is marketing, I have no connection with and do not own IKEA:rolleyes:

I am already in trouble today with Pedelecs for selling bikes in the classified section, but I have promised to be a good boy and not do it again:rolleyes:

Death Wish

This evening I saw (only just) a cyclist dressed entirely in black, on a black bike with no lights or reflectors riding on a poorly lit 40mph road. Later on the same journey I saw another cyclist dressed in dark non-reflective clothing with no lights (this one did have a red rear reflector though), but this time on the A46, a very busy unlit dual carriageway with a mostly ignored 70mph limit, not a road I'd consider cycling on in broad daylight. Madness:eek:

Death Wish cyclists

Youre not joking Ian. I see these idiots every night of the week on my commute. What I dont get is that about half are obviously over 18 years, and commuting themselves!!!

I know fashion and practicality dont mix, but surely the brain should kick in sooner or later!!!

I always carry a backpack for purse, mobile, shopping etc. Last winter I bought a waterproof, hi-vis backpack cover from here: Rucksacks, covers & bags : BSOAB
Mine was around £30. Prices vary according to size and whether you want waterproof or not. Gives good visibility in the dark - I also use a hi-vis waistcoat, but putting a black rucksack on top of it makes it a bit pointless.

The "Be Seen On A Bike" website has all kinds of hi-vis stuff.

The jacket arrived today - very impressive delivery time.
I like it, good fit, feels like a nice jacket.
Got to be better then my present (black) wet weather gear
Will have to wait for the opportunity to try it out - work shifts not right this week.
I will post a judgement on it when I get to try it out.
Play it safe, be seen
.

Update: Used the jacket last night very pleased with it. Lovely and light, kept me warm and dry. Silly me, had a jumper on under it - thought I would be cold (thin blood, etc) ... at least I now know not to have such silly thoughts :)
