    price of bikes on ebay

This happens quite a lot with all kinds of stuff on ebay, I recently sold a used DVD for more than the price a a new one from Amazon. I think people get upset when someone outbids them at the last minute and then make an irrational bid out of spite!

    Where Do You Live V2.0

Done! I too would like to see a permanent link, and perhaps a mention at the start the "introduce yourself" thread.

    Wisper 905se

I think the responsible manufacturers are striving for compliance with the forthcoming EU CEN standards relating to pedelecs. As the standards are supposed to ensure that only safe products can be sold, its a fair bet that to be certified as safe a product has to be at least legal.

    In love with an alien

I think many sellers actually know very little about what they are selling, not helped by a lack of information from the manufacturers. Of those that do have more knowledge I'd still doubt that many understand the relationship between nominal and peak power and then there is the question of...

    Indicator lights

It sounds like yours is a good implementation Merv, with indicators spaced out from the centerline. Unfortunately there are some very poor implementations on the market, most being no more than gimmicks. One I've seen was a small rearlamp with an amber cap on each side, and behind the amber...

From the "Quick Links" menu (In the green bar above) select "Edit Profile". Location information can then be entered in the Additional Information section at the bottom.

    Ebike Insurance

There's been one or two threads about this in the past. Most of those that do have insurance have found that where possible an extension to their household policy is the cheapest way to arrange it. Most insurance companies will insist on a heavy duty lock, although this should be a priority anyway.

    50cycles Warranty

I've never had any need to claim Bob. Most problems that people have had are with batteries which carry a 6 month warranty. You'd need to check, but I'd be surprised if an extended warranty would cover the battery.

    Where Do You Live V2.0

Not a bad idea, I'd be happy to participate. I think it would need more than a few of us to make it worth while though. Does anyone know if it's possible to share Google maps in such a way that all placemarks are visible to all users?

    Indicator lights

And what's more is what the Highway code and other road users expect you to do, at least in the UK. Of course there will always be some cyclists who for various reasons find hand signals difficult and for them an alternative may be useful but for the majority big bold hand signals are the safest.

    Where Do You Live V2.0

The best thing for anyone who doesn't object is rather than stating here to add their location to their user profile. Of course we should respect the privacy of members so no-one is under any pressure to show their location or any other personal data.

    Hub dynamos

In practice the drag is virtually nil. If a hub dynamo is rotated when removed from the wheel it feels slightly jerky but this does not tranlate to drag as the jerks are actually alternating periods of resistance and assistance as the poles pass the magnets, and when smoothed out by the wheel...

    What's Missing?

Agreed Nick. Whats done is done, it's time to move forward having hopefully learnt that there are no winners in situations like this.

    Where Do You Live V2.0

John, I agree it's a good idea to encourage members to show their location, I'll follow your example and add the first part of my postcode. Knowing someone's approximate location is useful when giving advice, and avoids the situations that have on occasions occurred where irrelevant advice...

    Why electic

I think the Japanese pedelec regulations only permit a 1:1 assist factor so range may well be high with such a low level of assist. Not sure about the report of not pedaling though, I didn't think the Japanese allowed that, and the Panasonic unit we know certainly doesn't support it. As you...

    Puncture Advise

Do check with 50cycles what tyres the Torq comes with now as this post suggests it has reverted to Kenda Tyres (Which are puncture resistant, but to a lesser degree). I doubt they'd be much point in adding a Kevlar belt to Marathon Plus tyres, anything that gets through the built in armour...

    Puncture Advise

I've seen aerosols of a latex compound in bike shops for around £2-£3 that are supposed to seal the leak and inflate the tyre, it is a repair rather than a prevention though and I can't say how effective it may be. My experience of the preventative Slime is poor, the only good thing being that...

    Mega range cassettes

There's no real drawbacks on electric bikes, apart from the extra cost of the cassette plus the long cage derailleur it needs, and small as that cost may be it would be a consideration on budget bikes. I've a feeling the widest ranges may only be available as cassettes rather than freewheels...

The best hills actually in Loughborough are the ramps in the multi-storey car park in town, but beware of 4x4's.

    Ezee Torq Battery

There are other options to consider when the battery fails. Companies exist who will replace the cells in batteries, restoring them to an "as new" condition. This may involve converting Li-ion to NiMh as I done, and the provision of a new charger. Alternatively replacement batteries may be...
