    Never noticed those!

second conversion - treking bike: rear hub, octalink, hydraulics

Both the Octalink PAS and the hydraulic brake sensors require a bit of ingenuity to do a good job, but it is perfectly possible. (I've done these on two bikes - a pack of Sugru helps a lot!) Talk to Woosh - they have all the bits you need. A German conversion kit company does sell an excellent...

"Legalish" sums up most conversions exactly!

    Suspension seat post?

Another thumbs up for the Suntour NCX. Works really well - much better than the pogo stick ones I had on previous bikes. Got mine from Amazon last year for about £40 which seemed very reasonable.

    48V 2P BATTERY- any good

The LG M50 21700 cells look far better than the Samsungs that Nealh was talking about. 7.3A continuous per cell, so 2P confifuration would give 14A+ (7.3A is under 1.5C, so quite gentle on the cells)

I'm new to e-bikes and have lots to learn...

I find Osmand very good on my Andriod phone. The map quality is very good - almost up to OS standards - and the "routes" option allows you to highlight cycle routes, both on and off road. All the National Cycle Network and Local Cycle Network routes are highlighted, as well as other local "quiet...

    New bike

Yes - those really are connectors. They come apart between the second and third complete rings. Putting tape round them is a REALLY BAD idea - the rings will stop the tape sealing the joint and will potentially lead to water being trapped in exactly the worst place. Having worked on boat...

    New bike

The business model in China/South Korea etc. tends to be a bit different to that of the West in that you get *** exactly what you pay for ***. If you ask for a discount they will always say "yes", but will then make the product with cheaper components and/or cut the QC so that they end up with...

idiots guide to building a bike.

Have a look at the Woosh kits. All the installation manuals are available on-line, so you can easily find out what is involved in fitting them. I've read various comments on this forum that dual suspension bikes are the most tricky to convert - * the chain-stay pivots can get in the way of...

    New to electric bikes

I'm sure that I saw something in the last couple of days to the effect that the 1K limit is to be removed from the cycle-to-work scheme for any type of bike, so e-bikes and high-end carbon racers will be OK. Could make your choice a lot wider if it happens reasonably soon.

    Ebike car racks

Pendle Standard/Classic does me well. Really substantial and carries two 23kg ebikes without any problems.

    New to electric bikes

My wife's friend bought a Forme Peak Trail back in the summer and is absolutely delighted with it. She uses it for leisure riding on Sunday mornings - 20 to 25 miles per outing. (Wifey went with her friend when she went to the shop to try out the bike - hence the question elsewhere about weight).

Anyone know the weight of a Forme Peak Trail 2 ELS please?

Thanks Kloos! So Wifey's conversion is just 1kg heavier than the Forme. Perhaps she thought the Forme was significantly lighter because the crank drive motor concentrates the weight in the centre of the Forme, rather than having the heavy back wheel of her conversion.

    Battery care and safety

The Dutch bike company Stella has had several very serious fires involving ebikes and their batteries. (It's not clear whether batteries caused the fires, but that seems likely). 500Wh = 180,000 W/seconds - a LOT of energy if something goes wrong! I only charge our batteries when I'm around...

The development of the brand new 2020 Wispers... in Pictures!

Doesn't quite add up somehow - if you know that you won't be getting a frame tested, them it can be as light as you like. And no - it's not just EU bureaucrats - it's all of them! We have a journalist Prime Minister, most MPs have never done anything else in their lives and the bulk of senior...

The development of the brand new 2020 Wispers... in Pictures!

My 25 year old steel mountain bike weighed exactly the same as my new fancy "lightweight" aluminium one. Was talking about this in the bike shop recently and the chap there said that due to EU rules about bike strength, steel frames now need to be grossly over-engineered making them very heavy...

    Insurance advice wanted

Halifax home insurance with the pedal cycle extension covers theft at home, when out and also public liability. Adding two Woosh converted bikes to the policy only increased the premium by a few pounds per year. Note that they won't touch an ebike if it isn't UK legal.

No spare wires coming out of the Lishui controller and the PCB is covered in grey waterproofing gunge. Can't find a wiring diagram (I think Lishui only sell to OEMs). (I was interested because I should like to add a USB phone charging socket, but definitely don't want to mess about in the...
