Will e-bikes ever enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK?

I've been making some contact with government departments about e-bikes, both of terms lobbying for more support for the industry and in my role with CycleCharge in seeking funding and government backing, and it's surprising their lack of interest and the wall I've come up against to-date. Apart...

Is there any hub drive bike worth paying more than £1700?

I think it all depends on your bike as to how easy it will be, if you do a front wheel it really can be as simple as just changing a wheel like it was for me. Anyone can change a front wheel? This forum is FULL of knowledgeable people though and even if like me when I first attempted a...

Is there any hub drive bike worth paying more than £1700?

I don't know much/anything about crank systems, but isn't one major benefit that you side step the whole issue of gear limitations on hub motors (unless you opt for a heavy/expensive CST motor and custom built wheel)? This would be a prime consideration if you have an expensive bike with loads...

    New Speedict Coming

Thanks for posting! I was JUST about to order. I'm glad I've held on as I will wait for the newer version. speedict seems to be rapidly evolving, I like how they're really tuned in to their customer base, listening to customer suggestings and rapidly updating the firmware to add new features...

Will e-bikes ever enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK?

Good approach Dave and I think that is what is needed more in marketing eBikes..think about the LIFESTYLE BENEFITS rather than the actual product itself.. for me, like many owners, buying an e-bike was a life changing experience.. many might see them still as an expensive toy or gimmic, rather...

Will e-bikes ever enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK?

I agree neptune, I think e-bikes opens up a whole range of business opportunities, it really is an industry which has massive growth potential much like the car industry with a big supply chain for parts and services. And because it's more eco-friendly than cars, there's also the recycling side...

    Electric kit or new bike?

Thanks Neptune.. that is indeed interesting the big difference in range there! Maybe my motor is either more powerful in terms of maximum watts output (certainly under high torque load), or the controller is not as restricted? It was sold as 250W but when I'm going full pelt I seem to go over...

ANYBODY TRIED THESE ?....... china comes to town

There's quite a few delivery options with BMS/GreenBikeKit ranging in price from EMS which is like Airmail economy and quite cheap but slow, but for batteries they use DHL and UPS for express delivery (FedEx were cheaper but no longer carry batteries). Delivery will cost between £35-£60 and take...

Another day, another (Powacycle) battery problem

Great to hear your battery is still working after 4 years! Has it only had light usage and been well looked after, never allowed to run flat? What type of battery chemistry is it out of interest? My first battery was a LiFePo4 5Ah and it only lasted 9 months before one of the cells died. I...

Is there any hub drive bike worth paying more than £1700?

So the restriction would like a limit on how much current the controller is able to put out on the flat to comply with the legal 15.5mph limit speed, but when the demand on the motor is greater (on hills) and you need greater torque (and thus more current) the controller overrides this...

ANYBODY TRIED THESE ?....... china comes to town

I think 10Ah would be the minimum size really for someone more concerned with budget and bike weight or carry-weight of the battery if removing it off the bike when parked. You can get smaller capacity batteries.. you really need to think carefully about how you will plan to use the bike in...

Will e-bikes ever enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK?

Maybe the question we should ask, from an industry/business point of view, is which section of the market is going to be more likely to see e-bikes as an attractive purchase and viable mode of transport, and so have the higher/fastest market growth potential.. that could be the older...

    36V lifepo4 charging voltage

I don't think it makes much difference to be honest..there's a slight variation in the voltage..the bigger battery can take more current..1 volt shouldn't make much different though really..the batteries have a BMS circuits built into them which regulates how much voltage and current the battery...

Kit or complete new bike? Not pedal assist?

That's a good point.. there's a huge difference in power usage in my experience between riding throttle-only and riding pedal assist when you're helping the motor by pedalling.. as I said, 6 miles v 30-40 miles (at full power)! at 10Ah, and it could be even less if you're heavier or have a heavy...

    Knee injuries

I wonder though, some of those Indian villages look a more tranquil and slower pace of life than UK, or maybe I have a romanticised view of India from watching too many films ;-) I expect India has its fair share of urban squalor. I saw some towns where they have monkey's running around, leaping...

Is there any hub drive bike worth paying more than £1700?

I doubt they will share inside info with the likes of me on their Mezzo sales and marketing efforts, but it's worth a try I suppose ;-) I'll ask them if I can buy some shares/inject some capital, maybe that will help? lol

    Knee injuries

So the UK gov guidelines which fall somewhere in the middle could be an over cautious advice, like they do with vitamin intakes. I saw some research too which suggests that dehydrating radically effects work and sports performance..especially concentration. So they argue it's better to sip water...

    Throttle compatibility ? (electrically)

Since so many people use BMS or need parts from there, we should setup a buying consortium on this forum and hold spare parts! Or at least people could advertise when they're ordering so others can piggy back and have the odd part like a throttle or connectors etc added ;-)
