Throttle compatibility ? (electrically)

I've run into another problem with my 1000w conversion on my Giant Trance full sus bike.

I've got the 48v motor working fine on the 36v lithium battery that I already had, (thanks to the controller mod help from here). The voltage indicator LED is on order from China, so that's sorted that as well.

I've now fitted hydraulic disc brakes as well, (secondhand - can't afford new ones !)

The new problem is that my gear changes are Shimano Deore indexed levers, and there's no way to group the twist grip throttle with those shifters and the brake levers.

I'd like to switch to a thumb throttle, I've seen these on ebay:

Electric Scooter Throttle Regulation for 24V 36V 48V | eBay

I think they're fairly universal, I wondered if thye voltage rating is purely to show the correct LEds for power level, as I'm assuming the controller is handling the motor's current, and the throttle is just sending a low power variable signal to it like a relay action ?

Are there any other good UK suppliers for such bits known to the forum ?

Thanks...

i have Shimano XT Deore shifters on two of my bikes and a thumb throttle just fits. These are the smallest throttles, which you sometimes see on Ebay for more than what they're worth:
Thumb Level Throttle - BMSBATTERY

The one you indicated might fit. The LEDs just divide up the battery voltage so that the first goes out at about 39v, the next at 36v and the last at 31v - or something similar. They'll work OK with your battery.

That price difference is amazing, as you say D8veh, "much more than they're worth" !

I've been mulling it over, and I now think even the thumb throttle would be tight on my bars. It's the trick of getting the shimano trigger shifter, brake lever, and throttle, all in a usable one-handed position.

I now think I can just manage the original twist grip if I slide it along slightly, but I'll need a longer straight section on my bars. The originals had a slight rise, but I've ordered some 610mm wide straights, which have enough perfectly straight sections at each end.

If it works, I'll post a picture !

eHome, I'm about to place an order today/tomorrow with BMS Battery using express 2-4 day shipping so if you want to have that thumb throttle I can order it for you on my order and post it to you, to save on the shipping.

Since so many people use BMS or need parts from there, we should setup a buying consortium on this forum and hold spare parts! Or at least people could advertise when they're ordering so others can piggy back and have the odd part like a throttle or connectors etc added ;-)

Are you volunteering. I though of the same thing, so I always buy a couple of extra things, but I always seem to use them up in experiments. I have sent out a couple of throttles and pedal sensors though.

That's very kind of you, yes please. At that sort of price I can afford to get it anyway, and then decide whether to adapt what I have or switch to thumb. I couldn't find anything like it on ebay, and often the China shipping takes weeks !
