    Schwalbe Marathon Plus

The slime tubes are OK, or were for me once I figured out how to use them. I was getting punctures almost every other day on my 25 mile round trip commute using the Schwalbe Energizer Life tyres that came on the bike when I bought it. When I could Identify the cause it was mostly small sharp...

A random thread for things too unimportant for their own thread...

We were low on lunch supplies in the house this morning so I've just brought marmalade sandwiches to work - like Paddington.

Are we becoming a nanny state?

Usual rubbish, been going on for years. In the early 80's I was banned from cycling to school because I lived 100yds inside an arbitrary red circle drawn on a map and was judged as living 'too close' fortunately my grandparents lived next to the school so I left my bike in their garden every day...

    Schwalbe Marathon Plus

I was getting a puncture almost every day on my 30 mile round trip commute using the Schwalbe Life tyres that came on my bike. I've swapped to Marathon Plus, they've been on a few weeks and I've not had a puncture yet. Not really noticed any difference in weight or grip.

    independent e bike technician

That's a bit of a worrying statement, whilst I don't expect to be able to ride my bike through rivers I certainly don't keep it dry, I bought it to commute to work as a replacement for my car and as such it has to keep going in all weathers. It's certainly had a few good soakings and is still...

    Recommend me a conversion kit

I'll check the existing wheel size tonight, I'm fairly sure a 700C would fit. How much would such a kit cost me? Anything else I need to check on the bike to make sure it fits?

    Recommend me a conversion kit

I've been happily riding my ebike to work for nearly a year now, at the weekend we found ourselves in the Peak District in our motorhome and had taken our ordinary bikes with us to get about. Mrs T really struggled on her Raleigh touring bike and so we are thinking of converting it to an ebike...

The "death" of the car, (as we know it)

I worked for a company in the late 90's that introduced an incentive programme for car sharing, I teamed up with a fellow who lived in the same village as me around 20 miles away from work, another lady joined who lived about 5 miles further on down the same road. Initially she drove to our...

The "death" of the car, (as we know it)

I suspect an awful lot of people are doing what I'm doing and sticking with petrol/diesel cars and just trying to use them less - hence the electric bike :) This has the added benefit of saving me money as well as reducing emissions. Whichever way you cut it trying to go further by getting an...

    Overtaking men on road bikes!

Not really, in 2500 miles of commuting this year no-one has been unpleasant really. Lots of other ebikes on my route though.

The "death" of the car, (as we know it)

I agree. So really an EV is only an option for those relatively wealthy or fortunate enough to be able to park on their own ground adjacent to their house at least.

The "death" of the car, (as we know it)

That's true, but I don't think there are any near my house, my work or on the route between but there are several petrol stations. There are I think a few charging points in the centre of Cambridge but it would be a significant faff to go and charge it up there. Eventually I guess if EV's...

Are good times just around the corner? It seems they may be!

It's a bit off topic but the thing I always wonder about is what the public response would have been if things had gone differently. She was in a car travelling way over the speed limit to get away from the attention of journalists. What if, for example, instead of crashing into the concrete...

The "death" of the car, (as we know it)

You have however piqued my curiosity. Cheapest Leaf on ebay at the moment is £5 and a half K. Plus £70/month battery lease. Range of that model is 75 miles, on the days I need the car my mileage would be typically in the 60-80 mile range so I'm not seeing this as a practical option.

The "death" of the car, (as we know it)

They may well be, but since we have a garage in a block so no electric to where we park the car at home and my employer doesn't have charging points, I'm not sure how practical that would be. The wife's car is a Hybrid though

That sounds very similar to the arguments against head-guards in boxing, the guard slows you down and makes you more likely to get hit, also a reliance on the guard reduces the necessity of maintaining a tight guard so you are more likely to get hit etc.

The "death" of the car, (as we know it)

I use the eBike most days to travel to work, it's a 24 mile round trip, half of the journey is on a very good traffic free cyclepath, the other half unfortunately is on a single carriageway A - road. Whilst many people would do the nice bit the whole journey would not be to many peoples tastes...

Advice Needed Re: Waterproofs for Commuting

Incidentally I find putting the hood of the waterproof jacket over my cycling helmet works marvellously for the head, I stay dry but there is a nice airspace so I don't get a clammy bonce!

Advice Needed Re: Waterproofs for Commuting

I use a relatively cheap waterproof jacket that I put on in showers and have some waterproof trousers I got from Screwfix that I put on in heavier rain - admittedly this is slightly inconvenient as you have to strip to your underpants by the roadside but I haven't found any over-trousers that...
