Hello, is an ebike a suitable alternative to a expensive train commute?

How so? Just wondering why this would be? My current commute is 12 miles each way and likely to go up to 16 miles each way. I've been riding my ebike since January and will soon have done 1000 miles, apart from the initial cost of the bike I have needed to buy one new inner tube. I'm sure the...

Total cost of an ebike, around 45p a mile?

Hmmm I'm not sure about these calculations. My bike cost £1500, I do around 300 miles a month, lets assume it will last 3 years before any major repairs or replacement so bike cost per mile = 300mls x 36 - 10,800. £1500/10,800 = £0.14. The Battery has a 2 year warranty, lets assume I need a...

    New battery conditioning.

oh well - I got a bit of extra exercise anyway. I did not that once the batteries had been run flat they required the charger to be turned off an on again a couple of times to kick off the charging process.

    New battery conditioning.

My new Kalkhoff manual said to run the battery totally flat for the first 3 times then once every six months - so I did. My wife wondered why on earth I was doing laps of the village after riding home from work.

How fast do you go on legal ebikes that are not derestricted?

Well, I ride about 12 miles to work with no attempt at racing with my work boots, packed lunch and a small box of tools. I seem to average somewhere between 15-17mph. Fellows who look a bit keen on road bikes seem to be doing around the same speed, housewives with wicker baskets and headscarves...

Hi All from an Early Adopter - paying the price

For me it's not simply about the cost/mile comparison, it's also about prolonging the life of a well loved car that I can't resist driving hard if I do use it ;)

Hi All from an Early Adopter - paying the price

I guess it all depends if you are replacing a car or running alongside, I've kept my car so even if I'm riding the bike into work the car is still sitting at home costing in tax and insurance (it's an old Celica so I can probably disregard depreciation - the diesel car is long gone). So far...

Hi All from an Early Adopter - paying the price

More expensive than running a car - well I hope not, since I bought one to try and save money! £0.15 a mile is not too bad. I changed my job 10 years ago to avoid driving for work as the then £0.40/mile rate I was being paid for mileage wasn't covering my costs with a fairly economical diesel...

Help us build a better Ebike battery

Well I ride (for the last 3 weeks since buying the bike) a 30 mile round trip to work and back. The battery will easily do 2 days so for me a 15 minute charge time is not necessary, I have all night before I need it again.

    That's Cheating!

No-one so far has said a word - and I've been doing a 30 mile round trip on a fairly busy cycleway for 3 weeks or so. Funnily enough though the wife had an operation before last Christmas which made it difficult for her to paddle her kayak, I rigged up an electric trolling motor for her so she...

What are the major factors that persuaded you to get an electric bike?

    - Needed to get a bit fitter, used to cycle into work a few years back but going both ways was a bit much. - Saving some money on petrol. - Saving wear and tear on the car which is getting on a bit. - I can work on the car without the pressure to finish in time to get to work the next day as I...

    Hello

Well it arrived yesterday and I rode in on it this morning - very pleased so far :) Only slight snag, I realised shortly after setting off that the handlebars were still upside down from being in the packaging

    Hello

We have a covered bike shed at work and it will be in the garage overnight so it shouldn't be exposed to much whilst not in use

    Hello

With the impending arrival today and the weather forecast not looking great I'm wondering what conditions people ride in? I'm thinking from the viewpoint of the electrics - how good can I expect the weatherproofing to be, is riding in the rain OK?

    Hello

Ah, and I thought I had researched things quite well..... Well, I'll see how it goes when it arrives. I have some brand loyalty to Kalkhoff since my current non-electric road bike is a Kalkhoff racer. I got it second-hand in 1984. Its still going strong!

    Hello

Hello I've recently ordered myself a Kalkhoff Pro Connect 9G. I used to ride a normal bike to work a few years back by taking it on the roof of the car in the morning, riding home, then reversing the procedure the following day. I had a few health problems last year and now work somewhere it's...
