    Brexit, for once some facts.

I've been keeping an eye on most of the movers and shakers in the bike industry to try to get a feeling of their thoughts and also possibly learn a few things in case I'm missing a trick. Read this today from one of the guys who I respect in the industry. "So the Brexit uncertainty has...

About to purchase Kalkhoff Agattu 8 - advice appreciated

or just get a spare charger and keep it in work?

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I've asked this of a few people now, and so far each time I ask it in any situation the person I ask goes very quiet... so I'll try here. Can you give me one example of a law or regulation or anything that is imposed on the UK that we have to follow that you don't think is a good idea?

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

Its pretty easy to prove... in the couple of cases where its been an issue, it only takes 30 seconds on Strava, Facebook or goggle to prove, because people with dongles love to post about it.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I read this last night, I can't find who wrote it, but its spot on in my eyes: "I have been listening to the various arguments about this idiotic and damaging referendum for weeks now. All of them focus on personal advantage and disadvantage. Both camps want to appeal to the venal, the self...

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

We only have the dealer software, so we just get the basic report that you've posted. What I've said is that I don't think dealers can tell for sure from their data, but Bosch can because they have access to more details. I'm sure you only have to look at the average speed of the bike, or the...

Pedelecs frum makes me feel sick

Because its a direct example of pedelecs being classed as motor vehicles by a large organisation, on the grounds of risk. Rather than classing them as bicycles as the law does. Which is exactly the problem we're worried about growing, to other organisations and land owners. Which was what...

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

Soundwave keeps looking at a dealer report, not what Bosch themselves can see. and its easy for Bosch to tell when one has been used, because they can see more data than a dealer. You just have to look at the average speed of the bike and the power used, or compare battery life and mileage...

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

Soundwave, could you learn to use the "quote" key so that it makes your posts make a bit more sense. Your obsession with the 350w/250w Bosch motor thing is fun to watch. The key difference between the 2 is that the 250w is rated at 250w and says so on it... therefore is legal, the other isn't...

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

Why would you ever need to prove it? Thats like saying I have to be able to prove my 60w lightbulb is 60w! Its not a problem for the consumer, its up to the testing bodies.

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

Its easy for me to think about this as a cyclist because when I train I always use the look at my FTP, which is functional threshold power. http://home.trainingpeaks.com/blog/article/three-ways-to-improve-functional-threshold-power This is in my head what Nominal power is on the ebikes. I can...

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

you're again confusing, what you might want to know as an engineer with what the law requires. What a motor is rated for is what is required, the peak it can produce isn't required to be controlled.

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

I'm sure you are, but I also think Bosch might also employ the odd specialist. According to the dictionary of engineering, this is the definition of "nominal" nominal power A rated or named value stating the power that a component, circuit, device, piece of equipment, or system can produce...

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

You're getting your nominal and your peak powers confused. The 250w motors are restricted to 250w nominal power output... that doesn't mean the peak output can't be higher and the motors still be UK legal.

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

as a proud member of the s-pedelec gestapo ;) I can point out that we, and I'm sure most people don't have a problem with the power or speed at all. The 250w nominal power is a restriction, as is the assist speed limit, the restriction is not on peak power, or on the speed you can ride without...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

I don't know the Kalkhoff range, but in general I don't think you'll find an S Class bike and a legal one with the same spec other than the motor. So the 2 aren't directly comparable. There are a number of other upgrades that need to be made to the bike for it to be able to be legally classed...

Frame Only + Motor- where to buy?

I'm sure a dealer would help you with this, certainly I could recommend a couple of KTM dealers who'd happily split a bike and sell you the eBits from it, ie, frame, motor, battery, magnet, and display. if any of the KTM bikes take your fancy message me and I'll put you in touch with a suitable...
