Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

ok, last post from me before I shut my computer off for the weekend. As a business, no I'm not worried about people fitting dongles to their bikes after the point of sale, us and our dealers have no liability at that point. Personally I'm worried about it because I don't think the vast...

    questions for KTM

Hi. Happy to help. There is a simple code with all the 2016 KTM bikes. Macina : means it has a bosch drive 10 : is the number of gears CX : is the drive 5 : means it has the 500wH battery. So in another case, the Macina Force 9 A4... has a bosch drive, 9 speed, Activeline motor and 400w...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

Dave, this is so so so boring for most people, but I'm going to reply because I don't want people to think I've avoided a direct question. Earlier you said EN 14764 only applied to city / trekking bikes... mountain bikes have another EN (14766 for those interested). What I said was that by...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

ok... that was the answer I was expecting. I'll therefore assume that you, like me, know all the reasons why this is a bad idea. So would you suggest its ok for someone to ride something that is legally classed as a motorbike on the road without tax, insurance, MOT etc etc?

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

its a thread... that means it can weave its way into a number of discussions, which benefit those involved. So I'm trying to learn. Ok, so you know about motorbikes. Would you ride a motorbike on the road, or offroad without tax, insurance MOT etc etc?

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

d9veh... please assume that as someone who does this for a living, I've checked most of the things. EN 15194 only concerns the electric part of the vehicle, whereas for the bicycle part EN 14764 applies.

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

What???? Which part of the law and liability risk don't apply universally? Help me understand.

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

Ok, so you're taking a punt, that whilst riding a bike you won't be involved in an incident that involves hospital treatment for you or anyone else involved. Do you not even have life insurance? Thats a risky decision in itself. I'd never ride without cover, just as I'd not get in a car...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

If I come across of patronising I'm sorry, but its very hard to tell someone they are wrong without sounding patronising. Its not about being more or less dangerous.... that's totally irrelevant. Its about them being illegal to use in the circumstances you're using them. So yes you as an...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

all good points RobF... However its this one, where your whole understanding falls down. You are not correct. Riding an eBikes means, yes your insurance, and the bike shop who supplied you will be covered. HOWEVER If you'e riding a dongled one, it means should you have personal liability...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

Can you explain this please, because I'd love to know (and bear in mind I'm an end user and represent a large number of retailers) why you think the risk is over stated. I'd argue to many on this forum, don't understand the risk and I think your statement that its over stated might suggest you...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

Agreed... I raised the question because I believe the future of eMTBs is being jeopardised, not promoted. However, Martin knows I've asked it publicly now, so I don't need to keep asking it on this thread. As you've said, the lack of reply is a clear answer in itself. And... I should point...

    Which FS MTB?

yes and no, Yes, its not illegal to sell them, so any dealer can buy one of us, and in turn a customer can buy one. The problem is.... should one be involved in an accident liability passes up the supply chain, because these are not CE certified as a bicycle and therefore can not be used...

    Which FS MTB?

What country are you in. The 2016 versions of the bike come with CX and 500w battery. If you're in the UK, the 250w one has an RRP of £3549.99 (on page 19 of the brochure) If you're in Germany, the 350w one is available. (page 15) You can view the 2016 range here...

That is normal I'm afraid fella, you can't moan at Martin for that. You don't get warranty on second hand bikes from 90% of brands.

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

I take slight issue with the hijack comment, seen as I replied directly to a comment in the OP asking for some clarification. Thats not a hijack in anyway shape of form is it? However if you're accusing me of bullying Dave or Martin thats not my intention.. so if you can tell me which bit...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

I'm afraid you're not making much sense d8veh..... First you said: When I asked you where, you didn't reply? Now you've said I've already asked him these questions... so again, can I ask you where have I has Marting these questions before? This is the first time I've asked, and its...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

Send me a link to where Martin has answered my questions about how he can say he's promoting eMTB, when according to EVERYONE else in the industry he's actually doing the exact opposite, for very selfish reasons and I'll happily delete all my comments. And I'm sure others will do the same, if...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

I've asked a simple question.... if Martin replies... and I'll go away. I just want to know how he can claim... When all the evidence suggests he's just looking to make a quick buck out of it, whilst potentially killing the industry long term and also prevent lots of eBikes shops (and I'm...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

Having just got back from 3 weeks on the road visting eBike shops, including time spent with Bosch and others at EuroBike.... a reply to this topic is very much needed from Martin, and now's his chance. I'm afraid its not the enjoyment of this thread that is there to be spoiled... its the...
