That crossfire should convert ok. Probably want rear wheel drive if it has suspension (normally aluminium) forks, and some kind of bottle battery. Mech disk's are a bit of a pain. Personally I'd prefer v-brakes or Hydraulics disk (never had hydraulics, but others report that they are less...

What sort of budget? I like Carerra's and Treks personally, but you'll have to give us a few more details: How/where/what do you use it for would be a good start.

Shetland woman looking to find my perfect Ebike, Need Help Please!

Basically, you a choice of two types of gears. Derailer (or derailleur) are what you see on most bikes - 5,6,7 or more cogs on the rear wheel. They are cheap and simple but can only be changed while pedalling along. Hub is the other option. Less maintenance, neater, and can be changed while...

    Battery advice

Phil, If you are getting 14 miles from a 17ah battery then something is very wrong. I'm a big fat knacker and can get about 40 miles out of 20ah (2 miles per ah). I ride it like I knicked it, and always use the throttle. Did you get any sort of warranty with that bike?

Easy way would be a front BPM kit from woosh: http://www.wooshbikes.co.uk/?hubkits Instructions are listed on the page, none of it is very hard. Get a nice pannier bag to go on the rack, hide all the gubbins on there. Most people won't even realise it's electric.

As others have said, sounds like hubby would be able to do it no problems. We are all here for technical advice, and to help you chose a kit. Because of where you live, it would be advantageous to be able to repair your own bike if it goes wrong. Look for a ladies bike with a rear rack: e.g...

What's the saying - There's no such thing as a silly question, only a silly answer. Yes, you can pretty much fit a basket to any bike. If aesthetics are important to you, then you should consider them. No point in having a really nice bike that you cant stand to look at. It does seem that...

Hi SW, The Kudos Duke (and I expect the Duchess, although can't be sure as no longer on the web site) will be OK, but neither will climb as well as the Woosh above. The Duke has a an 8fun (or similar) motor, while the Big Bear has a BPM motor, and 50% larger battery. I'm guessing you prefer...

    Oxydrive kits

No, it's the other way. Colder temperature = less resistance. I doubt it has much of an effect in the small temperature ranges we are dealing with here though.

Just be aware that those prices do not include delivery (expensive from China) or VAT/import duty. About £280 - £300 all in.

    Laptop cell spec

As long as the appliances are simple things with no electronics, it'll be fine. Cheap kettles, electric heaters, hairdryers etc. Your watt meter will integrate the result from volt x amps, so no need to measure every 15 minutes. It's not the most elegant way to do things, but it is easy and...

    Laptop cell spec

The capacity quoted will be for a certain discharge rate. 1C would be a sensible rate to test them at. If you repeat the test at about 2.2 amps I guess you will get a different resulting mAh rating.

One hour to go for this cracking bike :)

There are all sorts of ways to create a large load. I'm not suggesting that this is perfect, but it might give you some ideas: I needed to pull 5 or so amps from a 36v battery to test it. I was in my workshop, It was a hot summer day and I had a meter capable of measuring 10a, but no suitable...

    Looking for a new battery

Thanks Kudos Dave. I might be able to fix this battery up, it might just be out of balance, but It's quite old so its probably toast. I successfully purchased a battery from BMS about 6 months ago. Have things changed since then? Anyone else had problems recently?

Bargain MTB rack and light kit

Nothing, I just haven't had a lot of time to mess with it yet. Until very recently I was using it with the battery in a backpack. I will try it and report back.

    Looking for a new battery

It's one of my DIY jobs, a Kona Africa bike, with a wooden battery box/kid seat on the back. KU65 driving a 24v 8fun at 36v. Yer 'tis: As long as I can fit it into the box, anything will do.

    Newcomer to pedelec,

Most of these 1000w hub drives are direct (not geared) and large. One of the best rear hub drives is the Bafang BPM, or CST. Both come in 500w format, and have plenty enough torque for steep hills and heavy loads. You'll need a big battery (15-20ah) in order to supply the 20-30a that the motor...

I don't expect VAT/duty would be much more than £40, based on previous experience. Good point about Whoosh/Kudos - I'll make some enquiries.....

    Looking for a new battery

Looks like the second hand battery I bought for the wife's bike has given up. (It was cheap, and I got 2 years out of it, so I'm happy with that). As a result I'm in the market for a 10ah, 36v battery. Shrink wrap from BMS is about £150 delivered +VAT/DUTY. Can anyone suggest any better (or...
