    Help with battery wiring please

I think you are misunderstanding. D8veh is asking you to look at the other connector, to confirm how it is wired. It's the only way to be sure, all else is guess work.

    brake switch for hydraulic brakes

It'd be interesting to know which dealers are telling you this, 'coz they don't know what they are talking about. The brake cut out is important because the throttles often fail wide open.

How to attach these Alu Motor Control boxes to Giant MTB frames

Flymo connector: I'm not sure how much current they are rated for, I'd guess 10amp. Anderson Powerpole, 30 amp are the best bet. They come apart easily if you forget to disconnect or have a spill.

Why I like buying from Wiggle

Apologies SRS, I was trying to say that I wasn't the one being ripped off. Edited now....

    Getting What you want

I had a rucksack battery on one of my bikes for a bit. Anderson powerpoles are a good for connecting, as they will come apart easily if you forget or have a spill. You want a load of foam/bubblewrap in the rucksack to protect the battery though.

Why I like buying from Wiggle

Here's an example. I bought a new chain online, and set off to pick it up in the shop. £3.49, a very reasonable price and reasonable quality. I went into the shop to pick it up, and stood in the queue. Coincidently, the bloke in front of me asked the guys for a chain, they took one off the...

Why I like buying from Wiggle

I know it's a dirty word on bike forums, but I use Halfords a bit, for basics anyway. I find that if you order online and collect in store the prices are very good. If you just wander in off the street they will rip you off though.

Just when I thought it was getting safer on the road..

Have the Highway Code stopping distances ever been adjusted? They were nonsense when I took my test 25 years ago.

    Roll over Bethoven.

Someone, I can't remember who, once said that "Music is the pleasure of counting without thinking" (or something similar). It's true for me. Obviously there's the beat, but also the intervals of the notes in the melody, harmonies, percussion, arrangement etc. It's all happening at the same...

Hardware for building a 36v SLA Battery

Your 250w (nominal) motor will probably draw 15amps or so at peak. You need to build a bit a safety margin in to this as well. 30 amp powerpoles are the best bet. 10ah in SLA terms is the equivalent to 5ah of lithium, as you can't fully drain an SLA without harming it. If you are lucky, you'll...

Have you tried doing an eBay search for 'schwable'. I've won a few sets on the cheap this way.

    Making a lightbulb discharger

I just scrapped a cheap electric Heater from my workshop. Inside it is essentially four elements, wired 2s, 2p. I re-wired it to be 4p, and it draws around 6a at 36v. It gets warm, but not red hot. Another, less destructive method is wire a four way extension lead to your battery, and plug...

    eBike newbie with questions.

If you import a bike from the states then I'd imagine you'll get caught for Duty and VAT - I expect in the region of £100-£200, so you need to factor that in. I don't think they would seize it for being over the 200 watt limit. I have imported kits from China (and one from USA) without problems...

    Urban mover dealers Gloucester

FWIW I have four bikes, with right hand full, half and thumb throttles, and a left hand half throttle. I prefer the thumb throttle. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161579384090&alt=web

off the shelf e bike or custom build ?

Yes, plenty of us on here have built our own bikes. If you have some basic electrical and bicycle maintenance skills you'll be fine. For a 50 mile range I'd say go for a 36v/20ah battery, and be prepared to pedal a bit. A decent kit will set you back £600-800.

    Fast Legal Bike

Warrah, Thanks for sharing your project. It's been very interesting to see the engineering that's gone into this bike, the questions it has raised, and the responses generated. Sadly many discussions here are usurped by (perhaps amateur) lawyers who would rather debate the legalities than the...
