    Taking a few days off.

Ouch! hope you have a speedy recovery. I holidayed in Bakewell two years ago and cycled the Monsal trail a few times. My youngest son (9) came a cropper in one of the tunnels too, but luckily just got a few scrapes. He looked a right state though as the track surface in the tunnel was very...

    3 gears and 7 gears?

I totally agree that the OP should try to test ride different bikes but if your not doing long distances the large ratio changes are not such a big deal. When I rode the 3 speed bike I didn't spin any faster than normal uphill, I just went up a little slower than I would on my 9 speed Kalkhoff...

    3 gears and 7 gears?

If the OP doesn't want the hassle of doing a lot of gear changing, then the 3 speed would be the way to go. I've driven an auto car for the last 12 years because I'm not interested in sporty driving and manual gear changing to me is a totally unnecessary flaff.

    3 gears and 7 gears?

Last year I borrowed a friends 3 speed Kalkhoff for my daughter so we could do a longer trip together. I took it out myself to check everything was working OK and to my surprise I found it a really enjoyable ride. Apart from the steepest of hills I only used the two top gears and when your not...

KTM Terramo Rohloff Bafang 36v500w BBS02 Complete

I don't want to start the disc v rim brake debate :) but I'm also 11st and find my Magura hydraulic rim brakes more than adequate at any speed. Very nice bike Rob!

Using a lightweight generator to charge Bosch e-bike battery

I't's a shame electric assist bikes aren't more popular. Last weekend I did an overnight cycle camp to the Luss campsite on Loch Lomond. When I asked the site reception if they would be kind enough to charge my battery overnight. I was told I was the first person they'ed had requesting this...

Changing the size of the motor gear does what on a Panasonic Mid Motor?

It's a cheap and very easy mod. I bought mine here : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motor-pinion-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-Z-for-all-Panasonic-Pedelec-Motor-/331398335978?var=&hash=item4d28e14dea If it doesn't suit you, just resell it.

Changing the size of the motor gear does what on a Panasonic Mid Motor?

I swapped my 11t for a 13t when I found I was spinning past the power cut off on my 2011 Agattu. It rides great now and the few extra mph is welcome :) I'm sure the motor could handle a 14t too, if you've a really fast cadence.

I'm neither up or down about this show but this rings true and did make me chuckle. :)

    Kalkoff batteries again !

My Panasonic powered bikes multiply my input x 1.5 on maximum setting which is enough to get me up a 1 : 5 incline, near where I live, at 6.5mph. I guess the latest bikes that can multiply your power x3 will climb easier but my old kalkhoff has plenty of oomph for me. :)

    Kalkoff batteries again !

Dave, I think you'd have a better impression if you had tried one with a bigger motor sprocket That keeps the power coming at a higher cadence. I kept pedaling past the power cut off on my Agattu when i first got it but found it perfect and well capable when I went up a couple of teeth.

2015 Kalkoff Tasman Impulse 8 HS 17Ah low step 46cm frame

Owning two older Kalkhoffs, I'm sorry to see the demise of the old Panasonic motored bikes. Having eight years or so development they were totally sorted. Quiet, ultra reliable and a simple sprocket change to tailor it's speed to your riding style. One of my 18AH batteries still has nearly full...

Help me understand my new ebike

Is Saneagle heavier than you? That also could account for him freewheeling faster than yourself downhill.

    ROAD

We must be on the same wavelength John. Caught this documentary a few nights ago. What an incredibly brave, talented and likable family. Makes me wonder how people can be so driven in a sport that inevitably takes so many lives.

50 CYCLES A WARNING no quibble guarentee

My friend bought a second hand Kalkoff about 2 years ago. It was over a year old and the battery started playing up. It worked OK but the charge indicator lights wouldn't show the remaining charge. . When he contacted 50 cycles they asked him to return the battery and promptly sent a brand new...

    Breaking Bad

Know how you feel John. :) Just finished the last episode a week ago.:( I watched the whole 5 seasons in about two weeks. It's as addictive as the blue crystal. I don't watch much tv and it was the first series I've watched since "House". Thoroughly enjoyed it, not surprised it got such...

    Freewheel to cassette conversion?

I used to use a 12" shifter but sometimes it would slip off the hex with a really tight Freewheel. I found an old 9/16 BSW ring spanner about 15 inches long, which was a perfect fit on the freewheel tool. No more slip, and haven't had a problem loosening them since.

    Gadget Show tonight

That'll be a big departure from your usual full suspension style of build, Dave. No suspension and skinny tyres will certainly give your Brooks saddle a test. :) .
