Will I be OK with a 51cm Macina Cross frame?

about 30.5" it is the seat to bars dimension that is small for me, I find myself hanging off the back of the seat slightly at times.

Will I be OK with a 51cm Macina Cross frame?

Mines a 51 cm frame, I'm 5'8", it is just on the small side of spot on for me by a tiny bit, so could be perfect for you.

    Bike for long fastish commute

You'll have to arrange for Michael to borrow a bike for a week, then we'll see who is right. That's correct, due to illness I don't produce anywhere near the power I should be expected to produce. So for Michael isn't that what he's looking for? to ride to work everyday at a similar speed to...

    Bike for long fastish commute

That would make for an interesting poll, and I'd be amazed if even just 10% of experienced cyclists like Michael with a similar commute, polled would see the point of an e-bike. You won't need much power Michael, 1/2 power on a weedy hub geared Bosch will work perfectly, what you do need though...

    Bike for long fastish commute

That's my belief too. If you had a more up down route then it could be possible as Col found with his commute. However it just won't work on your flatter commute IMO.

    Comedy fall

I've seen a friend have about 20 of those sort of crashes, he's in his late 70's, always sort of rolls on his shoulder and back, and amazingly hasn't had any serious injuries. Talking of hub gears, my friend has just pinched my old steel 1992 era MTB to go to work whilst I replace the chain and...

Are you sure it weighs 22 kg's ? that's one heavy bike you have there.

    What do you think ?

Adding a 10 kg load to my bike evenly spread between two rear panniers isn't noticeable on the hills with assistance on my bike. I'm also the wrong side of 80 kg's at the moment. The assist speed can be tweaked up a fair bit on the woosh too, and a simple sprocket change can up the gearing if...

    That's cheating!

I tend to get in first and say I'm cheating, that takes away the first and usually only thing they can think of saying.

Does an E-Bike make things too easy?

The complete opposite for me. I'd probably ride 100 miles a year maximum un-powered due to illness. An e-bike allows me to ride considerably more miles a year, so that has to be better for me.

    Does size really matter?

I hope you've got a big battery then :) As Eddie says your plans could evolve as you realise just how nice an e-bike is to ride, so go for the biggest battery you can get.

    Wanted: Looking for fast eBike

Certainly with moderate pedalling your goal becomes easier. If you go for a large hub motor with a high enough top speed it will then struggle at low speeds up steep hills. Guessing you also have hills to deal with in southern Ireland?

    Wanted: Looking for fast eBike

Seems very cheap. I was just thinking about batteries like this http://www.bmsbattery.com/packs/161-48v-20ah-38120-lifepo4-battery-16-cells-2p16s-ebike-battery-pack.html

    Wanted: Looking for fast eBike

It's the low budget that I see as your problem, 25 mph + with no pedalling requires a lot of power and a large expensive battery.

    Wanted: Looking for fast eBike

More pointing you towards a vehicle that suits your requirement of over 25 mph for 15 miles, that'll be the small motorcycle then IMO.

    which bike to go for?

I'll leave it for those more interested to do comparisons on the individual parts on each bike. Perhaps it's just perceived quality I see, but for me I'd pay the extra.
