    Puncture proofing tyres

You know they are made in Indonesia? Just saying. In case you have any doubts on the capability of Indonesians to make tyres to German specifications...

    ebike build from scratch

LiPo comes in various sizes but anything over 6S is exotic when it comes to reasonably priced chargers. So for e-bike use 4S, 5S and 6S packs are the most common ones. You do the math 48v is 13S but 10S or 12S are the easiest, lightest and cheapest combinations to have from the packs on sale...

    Really nice home-built electric bike

You were thinking more along the lines of an angle grinder? :p I like the mid drive on the road. I have nothing against hub motors in fact I have one of those too. Just not in a bike at the moment.

Hobby king multi star on offer

€56.89 with free shipping... Hmmm... Looks like a 12S 44.4v Multistar battery is in my near future if my money negotiations work out.

    Parallel Batteries

I have connected batteries in parallel with 0.1v difference to no ill effect. 15 A x 0.1v = 1.5 W heat generated if I understand current flow from one battery to the other correctly. I use Li-Ion and LiPo in parallel and usually the LiPo is slightly less charged than the Li-Ion and they can...

    What Chain Lube?

Your roads must be filthy! Punctures, dirty chains, things unheard of... My Wippermann isn't as shiny as it was 2000 km ago but it isn't dirty. It has been lubed with dry lube once because it bounced off the big chainwheel onto the little one during a gear change on a rough bit of cycle path...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Heads up: it seems like our current president and prime minister want the Schengen border to move back to the centre of the Channel. Or post brexit for the UK to pay ALL costs for keeping it in Calais. One or the other. They seem to be willing to renegotiate all previous treaties.

Different bikes effect on Battery performance

GSM = BBS01 clone: 60 km (37.3 m.) with a 9 Ah LiPo battery. I like pedalling, weigh less than 80 kg and the bike more than 22-23 kg.

    ebike build from scratch

I can't recommend HobbyKing any more because there is no longer a UK or EU warehouse mentioned on their site and when you see a promo on LiPo it is never available where I live... LiPo only makes economical sense if you can buy it discounted, never if you are paying list price. Update: OK in...

    ebike build from scratch

That will make it a 325 rpm motor, it will work on the flat if you help it off the line. True you may have problems on the hills though :) Maybe 12S is better left to a 201 rpm Q100...

    chainrings

I have a 42/32 on Number Two and I really think it should be a 44/32 for relaxed road use. Unrestricted it should assist up to 45 km/h no sweat on the flat.

Try two 6S Graphenes in series with that controller for a real kick! :) Mine were only charged to 46v the other day and I can't wait to get out with them charged to 49v :D

    I'm bent!

OK sold on that one! As things evolve the big controller has fallen from first place in the list: - I finally tried the motor with 44.4v 12S and Wow! On the short test rides didn't see any more than 590W drawn but much more comfortable. - 20A x 44.4v means the motor spinning at the same speed...

Best way to climb a hill for battery/motor health

I agree with Gubbins 100 rpm isn't hard to maintain for me it is a question of the type of muscle tissue you have in your legs not how much muscle tissue. Having a motor allows me to spin for 4 hours on end whatever the slope. I have done a complicated ride on my motorless trike with slopes...

Best way to climb a hill for battery/motor health

The GSM creates enough back EMF to cut out at about 95 rpm. That is why I have decided to up the voltage a little. Seems to work on short test runs so far but need to try the big hill before making a serious opinion.

Best way to climb a hill for battery/motor health

Last week I was out getting rid of the cobwebs and trying to keep my legs in shape and the first bike to pass me was the Giant. He slowly pulled away but it took him several km and a red light to lose me so I guess he was just below the cutoff at maybe 24 km/h. Had I been on the pedelec he...
