    Upgrade to BBSHD?

Whoops, I probably should've worded that better. I think the OP is after the ebike grin, so I didn't mean don't buy the 36v 500w BBS02 in general. In its own rights, it's a great motor. I was trying to steer him towards more bang for the buck. If he buys the less powerful unit, then decides it's...

    Upgrade to BBSHD?

I say go ahead. I reckon it's a cost effective, good looking alternative to the likes of Bosch and Panasonic. Plus, I should imagine better access to spares and technical info too.

    Upgrade to BBSHD?

Yes, you could for example program PAS 1 with vastly reduced current, for use as an economy mode.

    Upgrade to BBSHD?

I personally wouldn't waste my money on a 36v 500w BBS02. The difference between that and what you have now will be minimal in terms of performance. You need to go BBS02 750w or BBSHD to achieve massive hill climbing ability. Coupled with a custom 42T chainring, my BBS02 750w is a complete...

    Upgrade to BBSHD?

The BBSHD will certainly give you bags of extra torque for climbing those hills, but don't If I were to hazard a guess on a BBSHD running programming aimed at hill climbing performance, then I would say 1Ah per mile.

    Hello from Poland

Hi Darek, welcome to Pedelecs and nice bikes BTW. Just out of interest, how popular are electric bikes in Poland? Is there a big interest in DIY bikes, or do Polish people prefer ready built bikes?

Bafang BBS01 ramp speed temporary stop

Programming the 'Start Current' to a higher percentage and changing the 'Slow-start Mode' to a higher number may sort your problem out. Actually, I can't remember if a higher or lower number on the 'Slow-start Mode' makes it ramp up quicker, but have a play to see what suits you.

BSSHD / BBS02 throttle only - would it make your chains snap frequently?

I don't use a throttle personally, but there is an option in the software to change the start current to a lower percentage.

BSSHD / BBS02 throttle only - would it make your chains snap frequently?

You can program the controller to have a low start current, which would minimize drivetrain stress.

    Bbs01 or 2

Go for the BBS01, if you need to do 38 miles. A BBS02 will need a big arsed battery if you want to do those kind of miles. I would recommend fitting some puncture resistant tyres though. Something like Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

    Bit confused on bbs01 reprogramming

I personally think that whether it's a BBS01, BBS02 or BBSHD, it's essential to program the 'Keep Current' to 100% before attempting to adjust any other parameters. The way the BBS series controller works with a low 'Keep Current', just stifles any other adjustments. Riders need the motor to...

    Bit confused on bbs01 reprogramming

Try programming PAS 9, 100% current and 100% speed, keep current 100%, start current 50% and slow start mode 5. Test the bike to see if you get the oomph you need, then work from there. Also make sure designated assist and speed limit are both on 'by displays command'

    Bit confused on bbs01 reprogramming

Setting 'Keep Current' to 100% is always a good start. Then you can decide on whether you want to set different PAS levels for economy, through to performance, or better control of motor speed, but still have full amps available. I've a BBS02, so 25 amps available on all 5 PAS levels, and as...

    Bit confused on bbs01 reprogramming

If you have the display set to PAS assist for 5 levels, then on the 'Basic' tab in the software, boxes 1,3,5,7 and 9, relate to 1,2,3,4 and 5 on the display. 'Keep Current' will drop power to it's setting percentage, once the bike gets going, but it also means a percentage of the PAS level...

Is a hub motor for me?

Yeah, as anotherkiwi says, I mean RC LiPo, which could be a little dangerous in the wrong hands. I ran a 48v 15Ah LiFePO4 on my first proper kit bike, and it was a pretty good battery. It was made by Ping though, who is regarded as supplying great battery packs.

    which battery for 48v 750w baffang ?

I'm running a BBS02 750w with Eclipse's Samsung 30Q 12Ah battery, and I can confirm that it's a very very good battery. Bear in mind that I have also programmed my controller to draw sustained amps more of the time, than the usual factory programmed BBS02. The battery just delivers power...

    What type of crank puller?

You might find the one you have will work. I use a crank puller with a round end and square tapered crank arm and it works fine.

Is a hub motor for me?

I'm still running my RC cars on Duracell AA's with a PP3 9V in the remote. Do I need to move on?

Is a hub motor for me?

Mmmmm, let's not encourage newcomers into going the LiPo route  Tim, stick with lithium cells, although, as members have mentioned, your current battery is probably not suitable for high current draw.
