Thanks for the link Flecc. Quickly blew through it to pick up the basics, but going back for a more in depth read later. TTFN John.

Well, if this and other urban legends such as Berwick on Tweed is also still at war with Russia (Since the Crimean war, due to it being named in the declaration of war but not in the peace treaty), Putin must be Sh*****g in his boots, He's a dead man for sure. :D TTFN John.

Not quite what the title suggests but I wasn't aware of this or the history behind it. Is Japan still theoretically at war with Russia? TTFN John.

I'm not sure I go along with that reasoning. If you had changed 1 word in that statement - Russians -> Russia, I would generally agree but many Russians have no experience of the old regime. The company I work for has plants in Russia (Now closed) and many of the teams I have dealt with there...

Best to leave it where it is IMO. It's done quite well on its own without our misguided attempts to preserve it for history. TTFN John.

And in other news... https://news.sky.com/story/shackletons-lost-ship-endurance-found-in-antarctica-in-milestone-of-polar-history-12561406 Looks to be in an amazing state of preservation due to the lack of specific wood eating micro organisms eing active in Antarctica TTFN John.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-60626777 While obviously a big hit to letting the average Russian know what is really happening in the world I thought Nick Clegg's reply was classic. "Soon millions of ordinary Russians will find themselves cut off from reliable information". In all my...

Yes, Still with EON, No longer have a Smart Meter and after the trouble the last one caused I'm unlikely to rush out and request another. We switched to EON when we got the gas supply as at the time it offered a good duel fuel tariff. As you say switching in today's climate is problematical...

I think they have hit me due to "historical usage". I admit I do live in a big old (100+ years) house and the plan was always to downsize when we retired. Sadly Joanne became ill and for over 2 years I cared for her at home and the house was kept very warm (Too warm for me - Think wandering...

Probably already been done to death somewhere in previous pages of this thread but..... Back on the subject of energy prices... I was paying £41 per month as I had built up quite a surplus. Once the expected price hike became apparent they increased it to £171, I had a mail a few days ago...

While I generally agree with your reply (And Flecc's previously). I still feel fighting in the dark in your own backyard is a better prospect especially considering the assertions that many of the Russian enemy are conscripts who probably have never used much of the equipment in anger before...

One thing which surprises me in all of this is Why is Kyiv etc all lit up at night? Surely it would be easier to defend if A, The enemy had to find it in the dark and B. Most of the defending forces probably know their way around the city in the dark far better than the invading army. I know...

I think that could surprisingly be a quite effective tactic. I'm not suggesting the Ukrainian forces should befriend the Russian soldiers. But it is a way of getting the truth to some of the more entrenched Russians who only listen to the state broadcasts and still believe Ukraine is a Nazi...
