Controller MOSFETS and question on failure.

No idea why the controller blew. I always ensure the bike is in the correct gear, so that from a standstill, there is minimal load on the controller. Plus, the motor is spinning nice and fast whatever the terrain. Might have been condensation within, but I'll probably never know the real cause...

Controller MOSFETS and question on failure.

Thanks for your knowledgeable replies ebiker99 and Nealh. Another question. I've just replaced my BBS02 48v 25A controller, after it fizzled out earlier this week (thanks to a forum member for supplying the replacement). I've reprogrammed it with my original preferred settings, but dropped the...

    Bafang BBS01 not fitting...

Also, once your boyfriend has managed to fit the motor, be sure to use the correct installation tool to tighten both inner and outer locknuts. If you don't tighten these down sufficiently, you will find the motor will shift about with use, and create problems further down the line. Another tip...

Controller MOSFETS and question on failure.

A few questions actually, for any techies out there. Take for example a BBS02 9 MOSFET controller. It is my understanding that a controller like this, has 3 MOSFETS allocated per phase wire. If one single MOSFET fails, does that usually cause the controller to become dead? If this is not the...

    Bafang BBS01 not fitting...

I had similar issues when fitting my kit. Although I didn't need to Dremel any welding spots off, a spray of silicone inside the bottom bracket, plus a rocking action as I pushed the motor unit in, helped with installation.

BBSHD failing under load after Nylon gear replacement

As ebiker99 suggests, the battery might be cutting out due to load. If you have a programming cable, you could reprogram the max amps, say 20, and test to see if it still cuts out.

After market bbsxx crank drive gear

Nice find. Was wondering when someone was gonna make a metal version, coz the original plastic one is prone to crack, if the screws are tightened too much. Been there, done that :( Grease port too... Wowza

    Bafang BBS02 grinding!

Thick nut first, then thin one. As it's almost impossible to hold the thick nut still, whilst tightening the thin one, I use Loctite threadlock (blue) to prevent the nuts from loosening. I tighten just enough to stop any play in the axle, but not too tight as to stop the axle from turning...

What size Lekkie ring for BBS02?

I've got a 42T on mine. It helps with improving the chainline, as well as putting less stress on the motor. Custom programming, using a programming cable and software, helps too, if you want to get the best out of your BBS02.

Help! Winter is eating my bike alive.

Just thought I'd give my impressions on the ACF-50 that I bought to try out. Here's the eBay link if anyone fancies a can: ACF50 Anti-Corrosion Spray Rust Prevention Protection Bike Motorcycle ACF 50 I bought this stuff, coz my cheap suspension fork stanchions love to rust up over the winter...

Can ACF-50 be used on the chain, or is it best to stick with chain lube?

    Death of the derailleur?

    Whoops, schoolboy error

    Death of the derailleur?

You got it in a nutshell bud. My riding consists of, sometimes, extremely muddy conditions, which punishes my derailleur. I agree, probably very little advantage to the average rider. I also think the likes of a BBS02 or BBSHD would kill a gearbox fairly rapidly.

    Death of the derailleur?

Promising news. A sealed gearbox would be a great move forward to lower bike maintenance. Who isn't sick of removing bits of jungle from their derailleur :D

    Help! Cheap eBay batteries?

Unfortunately with batteries, it really is a case of 'buy cheap, buy twice'. If you make the wrong choice at the beginning, you will regret it, especially with higher power set-ups. I know these are out of your present budget, but any one of the 48v batteries from this supplier will be good for...

Downtube battery on a step-through frame - is it safe?

Don't worry about the structural integrity of a step through frame. They've been designed to cope with the loads they endure. It's probably got a water bottle mount anyway, so designed to carry a full water bottle there. The only thing I would be concerned about, is accidentally side kicking...

Is the extra 5 amps chewing up my range?

I notice on windy rides, that overall performance suffers, so you might be on to something there. You can really feel the motor trying to overcome the extra wind resistance.

Which is the lesser of two evils?

I did, but am happy with 48v. The voltage sag on my current battery is the problem. Great for the first few miles, but the sag takes the edge off the performance after that.

Which is the lesser of two evils?

@vfr400 Would you be more concerned about charging amps, or charging to 100%?
