BA complains to BBC about Panorama e-bike misrepresentation

The Bicycle Association has sent a formal complaint to the BBC about recent coverage of e-bikes and illegal e-motorbikes on the Panorama programme.

it's due for review next year.
At the moment, there is no import duty on Chinese BEVs.
I am truly tempted to import one for personal use.
It will be good if we could get the Chinese to set up BEV production here.

The EU put 17.5% to 35% on Chinese EVs depending on manufacturers. If BYD come here, they will have to bring their battery production line as well to satisfy rules of origin.

Nothing to stop a manufacturer rating a 1,000kW motor as 250W in the current arrangements.

Which clearly they do selling same motors marked as 250W or 750W just contact them to 'discuss' your 'requirements' and 'branding'.

So essentially all you need to do to become 'legal' is have pedals, configure controller to 4mph max throttle assist, restrict top assistance speed to 15.5mph and have a hub that was 'rated' by the 'factory' stating it's 250W...?

And as long as your 750w rated in a different zone motor rated 250w in the eu/uk is capped out at 15.5 mph thats cool, just as if an Aston Martin owner remains under the 70 mph speed limit on the motorway who cares his flash dick extension has the capacity for more speed...

Regardless of how much cash you throw at the machine as long as you remain within the regs re motor rating, speed limit, and pedal assistance, carry on..

The use of motor rating in the regs provides the latitude to ride machines capable of handling 99% of the terrain folk live in while with the speed cap and assistance requirement ensure that silly death cycles remain off the rd ( as long as regs are adhered to).

I suppose we should be grateful of the 'latitude' given they surely knew a lot of 'manufacturers' would be marking their own homework...

My 'big' rear hub is on it's way out I believe, it's only done a few hundred miles in 3 yrs but clicking sounds are back, sounds like the bearings are shot again meaning maybe I got a dog in first place given bloke who replaced them 6 months ago was also bloke I bought it from originally... I don't really go more than 2miles from where I live so when it seizes or breaks or whatever it will do I will just get a black cab home and bin it. Maybe something just got loose. Again. We'll see.

I'm still suffering from pre christmas online shopping stress disorder and given the weather it can wait a few weeks before I look at getting a 'replacement' of some 'description'.

I'm going to email Panorama (again) and ask them to produce a 'show' (that's what it is these days right, a light entertainment 'show' not really factual or trusted by anyone like it was, shame the BBC has lost that?), so I really believe that this treatment could be gold for them:

'The Dangers of Keeping Your Cat in a PC'.

Probably they won't pick that story up but I wager that the worried BBC cntos 'involved' in this turd of a recent e-bike programme have upped the views of this forum significantly giving google has indexed it heavily...BBC prerogative is always gotta get the 'narrative' right then find a bus...

And the pretty much universal condemnation and breach of their own journalistic guidelines (well documented here) on what three counts and counting, I would be sweating too...

I cant even get a 4 kilo kitty into a carry box for a vet visit (just booster shots).. had to cancel 2 x appts due to failure and cat hiding from me as a result. - current strategy is a bowl of food in the basket, got the weekend to acclimatise her..
