No wonder MSNBC have had a catastrophic fall in their ratings. Soon, they'll have to post some real news, otherwise they'll disappear altogether.

When Rachel Madcow was sued for deformation, she won her case. The judge said that everybody knows that MSNBC is not meant to be taken literally. He said it was "Maddow’s opinion or her exaggeration of the facts"

Although I am not surprised that someone sued Maddow, what was it about and who sued her?

So big leccy vans, 3.5tonne plus are all now HGV's, require hgv licence, must be MOT'd every year from new at a special Electric MOT centre, and can't carry much, etc. I.e. useless as vans! Brilliant :)

I thought category B drivers can drive petrol/diesel vans up to 3.5T and electric vans up to 4.5T.
The idea is to allow up to 1T of battery weight for the same load carrying capacity. Potentially, electric vans can carry up to a tonne more if your battery pack weighs less than a tonne.
Have I got it wrong?

possible but the article is overdramatic. You don't have to run DeepSeek on the Chinese portal. You can use Grok or other hosts that run DeepSeek for you, you can also run a smaller distilled version on your PC or sign up with an email address if you don't want to sign in with your google, microsoft, fb account. As for backdoors, I always assume all services hosted online have backdoors. If you don't trust the service provider, shop somewhere else. The point of DeekSeek is to start a price war. Google offer the most competitive prices right now.

Cooling can only be a problem if the data centre wastes the cooling water by using it once and emptying it into the sewers. Like most of you, I have a water cooled vehicle which runs the cooling water into a radiator and reuses it. I doubt the coolant is replaced more often than every couple of years. Even then, we are talking about not much more than a gallon of water (5.1 litres).

I am really surprised that businesses are wasting water and heat like they seem to be, by just throwing the hot water away. The heat could be used in district heating systems, or in processes requiring hot water. Heat exchangers could ensure the process using the heat were pristine - for example in food processing.

I can't see that mentioned in the driving licence category definitions online today.

But a deeper search found this from 2019:

I'd check if that is still in force if relying on it. A bit odd that the main page dealing with driving licence codes does not even mention it.

Edit:

Ok, the licence category stays as B, but extra training is required, and operating conditions are restricted. A bodge to avoid the need for an additional licence category.

Edit 2:

Document states the arrangements will remain in place until at least 2023. Perhaps they have been removed now.

Edit 3:

This idea of running deepseek locally is an interesting one. I don't really have suitable hardware to hand though.

Have you tried using the Deepseek Think version of the App, Tony? There is a small icon at the bottom left of the deepseek app page which lets you switch model, or perhaps mode. Clicking it causes the model to show you the reasoning it goes through to work out what you want and how it should proceed. It lets you see how it is working which is I think pretty interesting stuff.

I tried to copy the 'thinking' part from the app page, but it won't let me do it and all I can get from it to paste here is the question and answer but you can try it yourself. It prompts itself that I used a smiley and says it needs to react to that its response needs to acknowledge that I am being light hearted.

Ah - I can screenshot that part of the dialogue.

I don't know if you can read the 'thinking process on this image. A screenshot is the only way I can copy it and show you. My question was a bit ridiculous, I asked it if I could run an offweb Deepseek model on a Raspberry Pi. It suggested ways I could do it. I then asked it what Alan Turing would have thought of these developments in AI.

So an EREV is a BEV with a petrol generator in the back, hehe, full circle. :)
I posted about an old one in the Bubble car thread by that designer, Townshend was it?
