I've been thinking about this. I think we can be fairly sure that the pagers had been modified to include explosive and a detonation device. The detonation device could be remote controlled or on a timer. Personally, I think a timer is more likely. I don't believe the story that they hacked into them and over-loaded the batteries because batteries don't explode like that. There were some stories about guys feeling their pager getting hot, so they managed to throw then before they went off, but that's probably the detonation system.

The question is how they got distributed to the right targets and where they came from. If they just put them in the supply chain, all sorts of innocent people would have been hit, including their own guys. It must be something really stupid, like a truck turned up at Hezbollah HQ with 4000 pagers and a load of walkie-talkies with a story that some benefactor had donated them for the good cause, and they fell for it.
If the detonation was by timer, they would have needed to decide on the date of detonation months ago, before the pagers were shipped and distributed. Since the pagers are a communication device, the obvious thing is to modify the pager processor code to react in the way i outlined a couple of days ago. The fact that most of them blew up in the faces of the individuals also points to that. Signal - alert tone - pause for victim to react and look at pager - detonate. That is what lines up with the vast majority of injuries.

As for supply chain - only Hezbollah have these pagers. The most sophisticated aspect of the black op is that Mossad set up a hidden supply chain, and convinced Hezbolah officials to buy, distribute, and rely on
pager bombs that Mossad could detonate at will. Not only pagers, but walkie talkies too. To do this, they must have infiltrated under cover operators at a high level. Hezbollah is completely penetrated by Mossad spies.

This is likely the greatest piece of secret service spy craft of all time. I bet Iran is also penetrated. Last month a Hamas leader - Ismaiel Haniye, on a visit to Terhan was blown to bits in a government safe house.

I am pretty sure they know by now how it was done.
If you can infiltrate the supply chain, you can easily replace a slow burn battery with an explosive one before assembly.
This is not about batteries.

Did you not watch any of the explosions? Military experts reckon 10-20 grams of military grade explosives. Could be Semtex. Small amount. Very violent bang.

The pager weighs 95g on its own, including the battery. Adding 20g of explosive to a 95g would make the device noticeably heavier. Swapping the cell for another with very high discharge current is much easier and does not increase weight.

Apart from the chap at the mobile phone shop where a walkie talkie exploded - hope it wasn't a second hand "Hezbolah" walkie talkie !

La La land.

You've spent too much time on the battery fire thread. Scroll back to the video of the guy in the food market who got his gonads blown off. The crack of that explosion is typical of high grade plastic explosives. Small amount very violent result. NOTHING like battery going pop.

You can make soft pouch batteries explode.

i can get a bit off a bang from a pouch from a tablet batt fully charged thrown in to a fire

18650s also kick a bit if charged and thrown in to a fire but no where near the force of whats in the media and killing ppl so must have used some sort of explosive because to make every batt explode like that all at the same time with the same force for all must mean remote detonation and have been tampered with prior to delivery.

bit weird no one looked inside any of them tho but then again most stuff is glued shut anyway.

This is just one small capacity cell:
The pager contains a much larger capacity battery that powers the device for up to 2 months. There is little doubt that the battery explodes, I think explosive is not necessary. There are codes on the Internet to destroy Intel cpus. The whole thing may not require any special op to infiltrate anything.

Your Guardian says that they had 3g of high explosive in them! Are they wrong again? How come you always trusted them before, but not now?

I read their articles when someone posts a link. I usually trust AFP, then the BBC.

I have no idea how mossad operates but it's usually the case that the simplest logical explanation trumps the rest. Software engineers can blow up CPUs, causing a massive discharge leading to fire and explosion. That's the simplest explanation.

every cpu i have blown up as overclocking it most you get is a puff of smoke.

only fires from a pc was caused buy a dodgy power supply.

i take it you have never set fire to these batts as you will find out the burst in to flames and not explode like a explosive charge.

also remember a batt with less charge than another will mean less fire so to make every one explode with a fully charged cell would be impossible.

if it was just the batts going off there would be mostly burns not blown apart and dead.

you got plenty of batts charge one up with 40 cells in it and set fire to it because it wont explode like a bomb going off

more fire than a big bang

In the video I posted, a 600mah battery was enough to shatter the Pyrex dish that the cell was placed in when it exploded at the end of the 1 minute short video. Watch it if you don't believe it's perfectly plausible.

Note the violence of the explosion and note also the sharpness of the sound.

Note in this video - especially in the slomo re-run that follows the normal speed first run that the victim bends his head to look at the pager on his belt. After a short interval, it explodes violently. Note the extent of the blast in the slower video.

This video shows a reconstruction of a pager and a walkie talkie rigged with a small sheet of PETN. I would estimate that the pager bombs seen in the above video contained probably half of what was used in the reconstruction. That amount could easily be wound up into a fake battery, leaving the compromised pagers with one battery - easily enough to have them operate satisfactorily as they had been doing until the signal was sent to detonate them.
