It all seems very one-sided to me. What about the people who suffer harm from the other side? Does anybody care about their feelings? Apparently, it doesn't count as hate because they're not a minority group, except in London, they provably are. What about the people, who get murdered, stabbed, mugged or beaten up by knife welding guys, or the policewoman, who had her lights punched out and nose broken at Manchester Airport? Big Carnivals are the same the same the world over, praised by the media for the good things about them and the inevitable law breaking that accompanies them largely ignored.
Brazil’s biggest annual celebration came to a close amid several indications of deepening insecurity in Rio de Janeiro. Despite the 17,000 police working throughout the February 9 to February 13 holiday, violence was a significant issue as mobs of youths assaulted and robbed tourists in areas customarily thought to be safe. Meanwhile, confrontations with criminals left three police dead and two wounded.
Beija-Flor, the eventual carnival champions, included in its exhibition depictions of gang violence in marginalized neighborhoods and a giant rat meant to symbolize corrupt politicians. At the same time, the president of the organization is currently contesting a 48-year conviction for racketeering and corruption.
Mayor Marcelo Crivella was traveling in Europe for the entirety of the festivities (he's obviously not daft).
On February 16, just days after the end of Carnival, President Michel Temer signed a decree for the national military to take total control of security operations in the state of Rio de Janeiro, including assuming command of civilian police forces. The federal intervention will last until the end of the year.
This all makes our Notting Hill event seem rather tame in comparison.

Yes - you may be right. I should refrain from commenting about things that go on in my country when they are three hundred miles from where I live, and of course - why didn't I think about it - the best thing to do about disorder is not to comment on it, but to stay at home - out of the way.
And also - how right you are that we should be grateful that this is not yet as violent and savage a country as is Brazil.... Best not complain eh? Or quote a magazine article questioning why it is allowed to go on year after year and ending in woundings deaths and a variety of monstrous hooliganism. Better not say anything.
When you have a million plus people packing a few streets, some criminals will take advantage. The police arrested some 300 suspects, pretty successful I think.
