Just wait Peter. Not for long I think.

It all seems very one-sided to me. What about the people who suffer harm from the other side? Does anybody care about their feelings? Apparently, it doesn't count as hate because they're not a minority group, except in London, they provably are. What about the people, who get murdered, stabbed, mugged or beaten up by knife welding guys, or the policewoman, who had her lights punched out and nose broken at Manchester Airport? Nobody has been charged over that yet.

Nothing unusual in that - the file is with the CPS - even for simple cases it takes on average 6 weeks from them getting the file from the police.

In practice it's not. Tommy Robinson was banned from every social media channel, and he had his PayPal cancelled, the day after he released his Panodrama documentary. Nobody has ever been able to show a single incident of where he broke any of the social media rules or laws.
I thought he was facing contempt of court charges after he breached a court order

But isn't that very fact a terrible indictment of our useless public services, and the broken nature of our law enforcement apparatus?

I well recognise that the previous government have ruined the country. I'm not blind, but what a disgrace that is.

On the subject alluded to in Saneagle's post just before yours, the London Assembly not long ago published worrying information in a call for action

‘Despite making up only 13 per cent of London’s total population, black Londoners account for 45 per cent of London’s knife murder victims, 61 per cent of knife murder perpetrators and 53 per cent of knife crime perpetrators.’

The Spectator today has an article about the apalling violence at the Nottinghill Carnival, not just this year, but in many years. I quote this paragraph with a link below to the article itself.

Twenty-one teenagers were killed in London last year – 18 were stabbed, two were shot and one was killed after his moped was hit by a car. Vulnerable children, some already suffering trauma due to challenging family environments or experiences in their countries of origin, are being killed, injured or incarcerated on a disturbing scale.

The result of this is ruined lives: dead kids and young gang members locked up for decades, their misplaced dreams of notoriety slowly fading as they are forgotten by their peers and swallowed up by our squalid and failing prison system.

“I want thank the vast majority of attendees who enjoyed themselves responsibly over the course of two wonderful days. Many people came up to our officers, asked them questions and posed for pictures, and our officers were more than happy to engage with revellers from across the country.

Does that mean we should just forget about this:

The violence is predictable and follows a steady pattern. Met data shows there were ten stabbings at the carnival in 2023, seven in 2022 (one fatal), 18 in 2019, seven in 2018 and 12 in 2017. Yet the street party goes on and the BBC coverage is stubbornly positive. Why is the BBC so determined to give such favourable coverage to an event with a lamentable track record of violence and criminality?
This year, eight people were stabbed and two have died.

There were 349 arrests.

Seventy-two people were detained for possession of an offensive weapon.

One person was held for possession of a gun.

More than 50 arrests were made for assaults on emergency workers.

Thirteen people were detained on suspicion of carrying out sexual offences.

Nothing to see here - just get the positive sound bites and move on. Head in sand much.

Well I never - thought of this before.

Americas Cup Yachts have specialist cyclists generating hydraulic power to trim the sails.

The pic reminded me of "Cool Runnings" 1993 movie of Jamaican bobsled team. "Ere, keep yer head down, if they find out ye're peddling this along, we'll be disqualified", hehe. :)

Want to understand how your pulse width modulated, ebike, power controller works?

There is no better way than to make one yourself - but it won't be big enough to power your e-bike.

Have a go at some DIY

Why do you concern yourself with distant events that you wouldn't go to any way. I'm in London but don't concern myself with that event because I don't go to it either.

Big Carnivals are the same the same the world over, praised by the media for the good things about them and the inevitable law breaking that accompanies them largely ignored.

Brazil’s biggest annual celebration came to a close amid several indications of deepening insecurity in Rio de Janeiro. Despite the 17,000 police working throughout the February 9 to February 13 holiday, violence was a significant issue as mobs of youths assaulted and robbed tourists in areas customarily thought to be safe. Meanwhile, confrontations with criminals left three police dead and two wounded.

Beija-Flor, the eventual carnival champions, included in its exhibition depictions of gang violence in marginalized neighborhoods and a giant rat meant to symbolize corrupt politicians. At the same time, the president of the organization is currently contesting a 48-year conviction for racketeering and corruption.

Mayor Marcelo Crivella was traveling in Europe for the entirety of the festivities (he's obviously not daft).

On February 16, just days after the end of Carnival, President Michel Temer signed a decree for the national military to take total control of security operations in the state of Rio de Janeiro, including assuming command of civilian police forces. The federal intervention will last until the end of the year.

This all makes our Notting Hill event seem rather tame in comparison.

Yes - you may be right. I should refrain from commenting about things that go on in my country when they are three hundred miles from where I live, and of course - why didn't I think about it - the best thing to do about disorder is not to comment on it, but to stay at home - out of the way.

And also - how right you are that we should be grateful that this is not yet as violent and savage a country as is Brazil.... Best not complain eh? Or quote a magazine article questioning why it is allowed to go on year after year and ending in woundings deaths and a variety of monstrous hooliganism. Better not say anything.

When you have a million plus people packing a few streets, some criminals will take advantage. The police arrested some 300 suspects, pretty successful I think.
