Lenny must have a worm eating up his brain. He thinks a Corbyn fanatic knows about economics and that Farage is Hitler. Somebody should send some social care helper to him. He needs looking after.

If he said that Farage is a bit of an ar se, i would agree.

Next he will be racially abusing my 25% Italian ancestry by putting pictures of Mussolini under my comments. He has done it multiple times before. :)

This is the grave stone of William Lord Beveridge, architect of the Welfare State.

He is buried not that far from where I live in Northumberland on a rather bleak hillside where there is an isolated church at Thockrington.

I found this grave a few years ago purely by chance while exploring remote spots on foot.

Beveridge wrote the famous Beveridge Report which became the foundation of the Welfare State. His vision was to battle against what he called the five giants; idleness, ignorance, disease, squalor and want. It began the National Health Service and provided income support when people lost their jobs.

But it was not and never should have been what we have now. It was a contributory system. You only could take out when you had paid in, and help was time limited and it was not at all lavish in what it handed out. The title of the report was 'Social Insurance and Allied Services'. Like all insurance, you only got it if you paid in.

You could not just wash up on the shores of this island and get money and a house. You could not be born here, never work and claim income support. You could not sign up on becoming unemployed and claim a life long stipend and have your rent paid. You got a hand up and after a while - a short while, you had to stand on your own feet again, or the money stopped.

Not anymore. We - particularly Labour, but also the rest, have gradually slithered the contributory fundamental out of existence. More and more working age people have opted out and chosen to live off the taxes taken from the rest of us. The left continually pushes the idea that the taxes come from the undeserving super rich, but in reality they come from hard working people too - millions of them.
I missed this post and only read it just now. Beveridge wouldn't have thought of his legacy in the state that it is now. I read somewhere that statistically, it will take 15 taxpayers to support one that needs support. Currently, tax receipts cover only 90% of government spending.

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. "

Alexander Tytler, Scottish advocate judge 18th Century
He was wrong of course due to being a product of his time, just as those who say socialism cannot work are wrong. Essentially democracy and socialism are the same thing, both dependant on a people with a genuine belief in society and our responsibilities to it.

In Britain far too few do so believe, being predominantly self seeking, so neither system works well here. We actually produced the evil Margaret Thatcher who dared to say "There is no such thing as society".

Who's the biggest winner US? Who's biggest loser? A: the ordinary people of Europe
Norway and Qatar are big winners too.
I think it will push gas price up but shorten the war in Ukraine too.

This channel says yookrandia is supplying Moldova with electricity. Someone is high on their own supply, and he is a famous sniffer! Apparently they're all firing up their Coal fired stations, yeeha. :)

I don't bother with pallets .
In the spring I have six 1ton builder bags delivered full of old cut up scaffold boards on to my driveway and the wood keeps us toasty during colder /damp days, bonus too as the scaffold company deliver the off cuts for free as it is cheaper to do so then having to pay some one to cart it all away.

LOL

Tell that to the Americans. They'd laugh and send you to an asylum.

Could be worse, could be swedes queuing for musky super leccy! :)
Overdramatic. Supermarkets are rushing to add charging points. The reality is sales of evs go up and up, 50% year on year until old ice is no more. New evs don't have cold problems either.

The Attention Deficit Disordered American Oligarch has UK Government in his sights, but loathesome as he is, he is not wrong in believing that the British establishment is only too keen to hide away from what probably half the British public know very well - that we have a serious problem with some of our culturally enriching, new residents, who see poor white girls as 'easy meat', to use the words of one convicted abuser.

The political class, especially those of a left wing perspective, are only too keen to hide away from the reality of perverted Pakistani ideology that sees women as filth, especially if they are white.

The ethnic / cultural connection though inescapable, must not be mentioned, and further, must be suppresed, and those who point it out, are to be disgraced, and slurred as racists.

Philips, Starmer and others may not be deserving of prison, as the apopleptic South African demands, but they certainly carry some responsibility for its continuance. They ignored, diminished and thus allowed it to continue.

The named individuals are not alone. There are probably by now hundreds of public servants who are tainted by innaction, and even deliberate cover up.

Shame on all of them. Had these foul practices been carried out by white working class gangs, the same officials would have been all over them like Monkey Pox.
