I got a decent indesit & pay £4.00 per month for a warranty, I get that back in call outs and parts, the darn thing keeps packing up every 4-6 months, although this is the first time the doors faulted, they still won't give me a voucher for a new washer - I got it in 2015. The warranty has been worth it tbf it's the same washer but it had 3 new drums, 2 new heating elements, one door seal & one blockage cleared, kind of sounds like Triggers broom he had for years.
I once found my washing machine bouncing around my kitchen, after it had bounced itself out from under the counter, obvs load was too heavy lol. I eventually managed to get close enough to switch it off at the plug. It worked fine, but then one day there was a loud bang when starting a spin cycle... and it seemed dead. I couldn't find the fault, looked at the pumps, microswitches, drum, bearings, changed the control board (£12 on ebay) and eventually discovered that a wire had frayed and exposed from it's bouncing episode, and that this had shorted on the washer's steel body when the spin started. Connected that back up, and that's all - working since 2008. All the engineers I consulted wanted £50 for a callout plus parts and labour. Sod that. They also said it'd be cheaper to buy a new one, rather than get it repaired. And it was a gift from the water company (long story), so it's only cost me £12 (spare control board) plus a 60p 13A connector block = £12.60 in total.
I avoid payments automatically leaving my bank account like the plague - companies find subscriptions useful, and I'm not convinced any will save me money. I've never bought extra warranty for anything. Many devices seem to work for about three years, I attempt repairs when they inevitably die.
