Oxydrive kits

Guys I have the below disc and PAS in my kit. Does it matter which direction the disc spins through the PAS? Or will I need the turn the disc round if fitted to the drive side? Will the poles then be the wrong way round? Should I just shut up and try it both ways?!20150703_181340.jpg

According to some reports, that one is handed. If you fit everything else first and get your bike working, you can test which ways it works by spinning it with a power drill. I stick a dumpy screwdriver through the hole and stick it in the chuck so that the disc is trapped between the handle and the chuck. Don't forget that the wheel will rotate, so keep it off the ground.

If it is handed, you can also reverse the direction by unscrewing the sensor from the bracket and re-mounting it the other way round. You might have to drill two small holes in the bracket if the screws are across the diagonal.

My one worked as you have it already on the drive side also my Big Bear one was the same.

Just checked the disc and all the magnets have the same orientation of poles so whichever side of the crank it goes, the 'working side' *must* face the sensor. What I dont get, is how does the sensor know if the crank is spinning forwards or backwards? And I have heard of people 'turning around' the sensor but surely the working face must face the disc as normal? Or you mean spinning it 180 deg in the vertical plane?

Theres a small red led in the back of my sensor which pokes through a hole in the bracket so whatever I do with it (if I keep it on the supplied bracket) this will need to be accomodated as well as any redrilling of mounting holes.

Imagine a single screw in the middle of the bracket at the back instead of the two in the corners. If you were able to loosen that screw and rotated it through 180 deg, that's what I mean to change the direction.

I said it wrong in the previous post about re-drilling the screw holes. For that, you don't need to drill new holes because it has rotational symmetry.

Yes but you'll need to get one from eBay or such. If you have a hollowtech BB and clearances are tight you could get the one if refer to in an earlier post, I used the oxydrive sensor. I don't think you need a 12 magnet ring but it will need to be compatible in polarity.

Cheers baldy got that now. Although I will still need to play with the screw holes as they are not on the central axis. I may even use double sided tape as its not exactly under stress or saying that I may just do away with the OD bracket altogether and rig something else up.

I am guessing that the sensor must read the direction of the mag field as well as the pulses, which I had not considered at first but I guess if it didn't you would get assist pedaling fowards as well as backwards!

Nealh, thanks for those pics. Looks like the small chainring was swopped out with the disc which was then bolted in place. Nice and neat I like that :)

I find it a bit concerning that there are inconsistancies with the parts supplied in Oxydrive kits, especially ones that were bought on the same day. I would expect this from a Chinese sourced kit, not a UK one. It wouldn't be fair to comment further as there may be a good explanation and no Baldy, I only got the sensor I pictured. This is the primary reason why I will picture document my fitment as its no help to anyone just using text given the myriad of different parts supplied by these kit sellers (or even the same seller...)

Yes it is a bit strange that we got them at the same time and that they are different, most of my kit was all open in the box, not sure if they unpack it first just to try it all out?, but what I did see was that the bit that holds the battery on had some marks on the bid that the screws go into just like it was put on another bike. But there is a 12 month warranty so if I get any probs it can just go back.

The sensor is the same as supplied in the Big Bear kit and works fine, just means no need to remove bb to fit either. If you do try and fit it to the drive side fir the disc with the flatest side to the sensor. I guess that is one fault of Chinese supplied kits as they are not always consistent with the parts they supply or they ran out of the bb sensor and put in the alternative item.

I have put my one on but you can spin in real easy on the crank, but it goes around just fine with the pedals, do you think this will be ok?

As long as it turns and stays close to the sensor, it will be OK.,you can make it a bit tighter by taking it off and filing the flutes with hot melt glue plus a few blobs on the inner diameter.

Thanks for that, I'm sure I can find something that will help hold it on.
I did see on video on YouTube with the same sensor and that was lose just like my one but I wanted to make sure.

One more thing how fast do you have to turn the disk to make the light come on, on the sensor?, if I just move it past the disk by hand it won't light up is this right?
