i think i have my win 7 pro cds in the loft with both the 32bit and 64 bit versions just pm me a address and i can post it to you nealh as have no use for it anymore.
This one doesn't have a cd draw/slot, but thanks for the offer.
It's possible to install Windows 7 from a USB drive, but it isn't always straightforward if he has an SSD. If he takes it to a PC repair shop and provides the disk or valid serial number, they will install Windows 7 for him. It won't get any updates of course, but if he installs Comodo Firewall (instead of Windows Firewall) and has antivirus, he'll be ok for the most part using it on the internet - with certain ports blocked.

We just need Windows 10 to install java.

yep it does this, looks like though dispite doing so w10 isn't physically recognising it.
Some Windows 10 settings need to be changed. Is there a PC repair shop near you? If so, they might not charge a lot to just install java for you. Otherwise we're going to have to fiddle about quite a bit with Windows 10 until it does, and at the moment I don't have a Windows 10 to fiddle about with. I've got a version of Windows 10 which I installed a couple of years ago stored on a hard drive, but I still haven't found it.

The othe route to a legal Windows 7 Professional is a serial number bought on ebay - they're legal licenses from scrap PCs. Then ask a PC repair shop to install Windows 7 Professional, taking the serial number with you. Back up all your files first, because they will have to reformat your hard drive. Despite Microsoft not supporting Windows 7 anymore, many people are staying with it, including me. Hell, I still very often use XP. I even occasionally use Windows 2000, because a particular sound card doesn't work on anything newer.

If a PC repair shop does install java on Windows 10 for you, do the command line java test before you leave the shop.

Your Windows 10 can be set to allow java installation. The settings which my Windows 10 has, will differ from how your Windows 10 has been configured by your laptop manufacturer - but your Windows 10 settings can be changed.

If it's quite new or newish, your laptop might not even have Windows 7 drivers available, so Windows 7 installation might not be possible.

Can you uninstall java? If so, uninstall it and reboot. Then try the online java installer, as he does here:

It could be that Windows 10 hasn't had the path to java installed properly during installation, due to how your Windows 10 has been set up. Do this as shown in the video below. Pause and replay steps as needed, on your laptop, phone or tablet while doing this:

Deffo follow that video in post #288! Make sure you've installed java first, despite your Windows 10's troubles.

After following the steps in #288, start the configurator.

At 26/27 secs I can't tell or see what folder he is clicking on, his movements ae too fast and erratic.
I have already looked it that registry to change things but this to an extent is almost easy to follow.

That's the bit where he's copying path to clipboard. Here's how that's done - see video below. After copying, test by opening Notepad++ and paste into a new file. If you have copied path successfully, it will paste. Then it's ready for pasting for the next stage in the video in post #288.
