On my Win 7 PC, it's the same as Bikes4Two: I've just double-clicked the configurator to launch, and it started fine. Then when I clicked "Compile and Flash", it compiles and gets to the point where it starts trying to communicate with a device which doesn't exist, to flash.

Something has gone awry Nealh, and I don't know what it is. I don't think Windows 10 is the problem, because it worked for Bikes4Two. I'll have time in a couple of days to have a try on windows 10 myself. It's a hellish couple of days ahead but bear with me, I will record it and put it on youtube. I've also got to find that Windows 10 hard drive - I've got so many and it's of so little importance for me because it's Windows 10 that I never use, that I really haven't a clue where to look!

Maybe my w10 is just ill.
But that said in #150 it all was perfect as I had the config screen open and was able to mess with parameters.

i think it is a windows problem as 7 no longer gets updates and since then there have been so many 1 change in the line of code could have changed in the kernel ect to the file system via a UPDATE so the way it opens on win 10 is broken but you did get it to open 1 time so it will work.

when things get like this i remove everything and start again and back in the day if it pi$$ed me that much id nuke the os and start again with format c;/

i have a old midi sport 8x8 interface which says it will work on win 10 but the drivers wont work anymore with all the updates and has rendered it useless because the universal standard midi interface has to die!

i think i have my win 7 pro cds in the loft with both the 32bit and 64 bit versions just pm me a address and i can post it to you nealh as have no use for it anymore.

That means you haven't installed java

If it says java is not recognised, java is not installed.

If java is installed, then when you type:

java

and hit enter

You'll get a lot of helpful lines of hints. If not, you haven't installed java.

Here's that same "java" command on my PC which hasn't got java installed. It's the same message:

It's "Windows Offline (64-bit)" on this page:

https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

It will download into your "Downloads" folder. Just double click and install. It should look like this while installing:

Once java has installed, start the configurator.

I have installed it the green instalaltion bar goes to the end of the process then a msg appears to say install is complete.

It was worth trying the command line, because now we know you don't have java... so it's time to get java!

For some reason, it hasn't installed correctly, or some other version has been installed. In which case, uninstall java and download and install again... making sure it's that link from the web page in post #271

The filename of the java download is:

jre-8u333-windows-x64.exe

Double click and install. Then start the configurator. I'm really enjoying hearing "Start The Configurator" in my mind

I got a good deal on that CF, because the man is in a hurry to ditch as much of his belongings as he can, and quick! And also because he knew sod all about ebay. £90 plus £17.20 in train fare isn't bad. But it's a small CF. It'll do for my little AirBnB holidays.

Close all programs.

Uninstall java using the control panel.

Reboot, then install java. Make sure you don't have any programs open when you install java, because they could prevent it installing properly - especially browsers. In fact, have nothing else open whatsoever, before installing.

We might need to install java as administrator.

UAC might also be preventing java installation.

Laptop settings for Windows 10 are set en masse by the manufacturer, yours may be set to make it difficult for certain software to install, for security reasons.

Using the offline installer is the best java installation method.
