Luckily lots of our dealers and customers have an understanding of motorbikes, so know to treat the s-pedelecs like motocross bikes. ie not road legal, or offroad legal.
Here's one that doesn't. I'm not convinced by your use of motorcross riders being saints compared to e-bike riders is a particularly good one.

target market is every much people who want to ride up the roads / fire roads / trails and then descend on the technical stuff. Think Alpine riding, where these will sell.
Out of interest why do you think they will sell? For Alpine riding surely the same bike with the standard performance motor would be just as good, so why would people pay extra for an S-pedelec version which is illegal on the road so couldn't be used to get to the event?

They aren't being sold as a form of transport, they are being sold as a toy. I don't know the dealers in Germany that are selling them, and I'm sure there will be some people who buy these to ride to work on.

But the couple of people I know in Germany who have ordered them, or the older model from 5 years ago use them to ride up roads in the German hills, and then down the offroad sections.

In the UK, and indeed for most people the standard "performance" drive is good enough for this. But in mid mountains getting up the access roads faster makes sense if you can afford it.

I'm still enjoying pedal power at the moment though. ;)

I spent a bit of Sunday afternoon out playing in the area local me, just exploring hidden tracks and following animal trails to discover new routes to ride. Following these trails often leads to exciting new places, but equally from experience, it also makes for lots of bike carrying and lots of cuts from brambles etc. I wouldn't change a bit of it. :) Being out on two wheels enjoying muddy tracks, has to be the best therapy for mental well being that there is. If only I could do it every day. :(







I have only ever ridden and crossed this bridge late at night, and it always takes me about 20 minutes to find it! I thought that I do it daylight for a change, and it still took me about 20 minutes to find! It isn't exactly in public view, but the land behind is brilliant fun to ride, and will prove to be even better now that I have spent a bit of time shifting fallen pine trees out of the way to open the fast flowing track right up. It should make the e-mtb night riding much safer, and also much faster.

I'm posting onto this thread in case we have any new folks who are wondering who has a KTM here and what it looks like.

I've had my KTM eLycan P since July. I've put just over 250 miles on it so far but that's a mixture of road and hard trails so it hasn't been babied. I really love this bike, it's so well built and heaps of fun to ride. It's inspired me to ride places I wouldn't have dreamed before I got it.

So here's a picture of it. My mods and additions from stock are...

* Saddle - changed to a Selle Royal Ariel which is the stock saddle on a KTM eStyle P. It's so comfy but isn't too bulky either.

* Peddles - It came with skinny clip-ins. I've got wide mtb style flats which give me a great platform to stand on.

* Mudguards - By SKS. I haven't had to test them properly yet but I'm hoping I don't end up with mud all up my back, yuk!

* KTM Walk Assistance Button - Essential for me and steep trails I can't manage to ride up.

* Also - Zefal Spy Mirror, Moon lights, Roswheel handlebar mounted phone bag, Slime in tyres.

That's a lovely looking bike - I can almost feel an upgrade coming on, although I don't think I could I could get away with it since I've only had my KTM EStyleP since July!

I'm sure there's a simple answer to this, but can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the black and orange Panasonic motors (other than the colour :rolleyes:) My bike has the black motor but I see TK's has the orange one.

Do you think my rather sombre coloured Kalkoffs which are currently for sale (classified section) would appeal if I painted the KTM logo on them and covered them in very bright shiny paint? Or is that attitude a little shallow?;)

Oh but the eStyle P is lovely though! I test rode a step through one when I was choosing a bike and it was so comfy. I'd have one of those too if I could afford it! If I was eccentrically rich I'd definitely have a large collection of pedelecs, hee hee.

I suspect there's no difference between the black and orange hubs. That's pure guesswork though based on my very limited experience.

Out of interest, which make of flats did you go for?
I've always run clipless, but I'm currently considering flats as a winter choice.
Hee hee, thanks for the compliments Eddie! :)

My pedals are 'Outland Kustom Slim Pedals' made by Raleigh. I ended up with these because Mark from Emotion rightly guessed that I might not be at home with clipless (why are they called that when they seem to be clip-in?) so when he delivered the bike he bought the Outland pedals with him to see. I took at look at both sets and decided the flats were the way to go and paid £22 for them and put the stock pedals away. Their rrp seems to be more like £40 full price and I'm not sure if they're still available having just done a quick Google, unless you want them in horrible wood effect.

Mbr magazine recently reviewed flat pedals and the test winner was the DMR Vault at £99.99. I'm guessing the main thing is that they are lighter than the ones I have, but I'm perfectly happy with mine, especially since I know if I damage them and scratch them to hell then they're not expensive to replace. I wish I'd had these years back on my BMX. The amount of times my pedal flew round for the spiky edge to smash into my shins you wouldn't believe. These probably weren't invented back in them days though!

There's a set called the 'Nukeproof Electron' that gets 7/10 for £34.99 or the Superstar Delta which got 9/10 for £55. Both of them look pretty slim. I agree they are all very steep in price though. Why do these magazines only insist on reviewing the pro stuff which costs a small fortune. It was like that when I read motorbike mags, just filled with litre bikes and never the more real world stuff that joe average can afford. My pedals have taken a real hammering so far. I'm very happy they are cheap so I don't care.

I agree about the name clipless, I've never understood the thinking behind that one either.
Just popping by to help with this one.

They are called clipless because you don't need to use toe clips to be attached to them.

If you've ever tried riding off-road on pedals with toe clips you'll know what a revelation"clipless" pedals were.

I think that I'll pass on the toe clip idea. :)

I have just looked at the price of the Shimano XT M780 XC Race SPD pedals that I have on the Ultra. I must have had a right result with mine, as I paid about £23.00 for them. Whilst I rate them very highly, I was also slightly disappointed with the weight of them. They are pleasure to though, and will stay firmly attached to the bike. :)

My Shimano A530 pedals have proved to very good for all round use.
Sadly with no studs, they are very slippery if you try to use them as flats in the mud. These are the pedals that I tempted to modify by drilling and fitting very small studs to. I need to look at the structural aspect of them first though.
