do members use there ebikes much at this time of year not work related

hi all up too about 2 years ago prior to getting an ebike, from about November onwards would cycle about 3 miles, befor feeling like a frozen t*urd and going into local pc world to thaw out.

 

having an ebike I can get home quicker, but I find now at 67 I use my ebike far less at this time of year in fact 8 times since 30th nov. and use the bus instead.

 

this year seems very unsettled always windy and rainy. but do much more in the summer

 

for those who do not use there ebike for work, do you still get out and brave our crap weather?

I actually use mine far more in the winter. The sloppy, muddy lanes and relentless rain become tedious but I much prefer the cooler temperatures to the heat which always drains me. I really would welcome some crisp, fresh frosty days or even a little sun but right now I would happily settle for a day of just light drizzle instead of gales and usual heavy or torrential rain!

 

I live in a rural area with just a weekly bus on market day - and this returns 2 hours later so there is no realistic public transport.

I do now I have a mtb as well as a hybrid.

 

Good waterproofs and weather not an issue .......other than making parts of south downs impassable quagmire !

I don't do rain, but on Sunday we wrapped up warm and faced the wind up here in rural Lancashire. I wore under 'thingies', jumper, fleece over jumper, warm ski jacket, fleece lined pants, ski socks, ski gloves, neck tube, balaclava and helmet.

 

I was certainly glad I had the 'engine' 'cos the wind was head on at times and would have dragged me to a stop without assist 3 out of 5.

 

At one point we passed a lycra clad mountain biker - I'd swear he was grunting with the effort as I passed him with a cheery "hello"!

 

We manage to get out once a week or so through Winter but I am a 'lady of leisure', which helps.

I use mine at present only to commute. However, I now have all of my winter work done around home and will go for a lengthy ride the first nice enough day I have off.

I do about 100miles a week at the moment ,

this will go up during the summer and a lot more off road riding too in the drier months .

I'm generally out three nights a week riding off road, and then one weekend ride, on either Sat or Sun.

 

My target mileage for this year riding off road is 4,000 miles. I managed in the region of just over 3,000 miles last year.

I will use the same policy when I get my ebike... if its raining I aint going... but if it starts when I am out, Im out so getting wet anyway....

Same here as I cycle for pleasure only. I get out as much as is sensible (to me) and tend to use my non electric bike more in the cold weather though ten to fifteen miles max, often a little less and choosing a less arduous route.

Nah, I just like to set targets.

 

Well actually it is more a challenge as someone has narked me by openly saying that e-bikes make you fat and lazy. I want to blast their pedal mileage for this year into the weeds, and intend what ever they complete. Petty I know, but as I find that the more that I ride, the more that I find it addictive, I'll do it.

I don't have a car...

I never went biking in the winter - was always cold and miserable after a couple of miles.....Since getting my e bike I have invested in proper cycle kit for both summer and winter....get all togged up for a cold day and with the correct kit it really makes a difference.....Next purchase are some seal skinzs socks as my supposedly water proof goretex salamon shoes - aren't very water proof .

I don't cycle when its raining and/or high wind unless absolutely necessary, I had enough of that weather when I was working (part of my job was working outdoors), raining or gusty I use the bus, (except on Sunday - when there isn't any bus), but I will try to use the ebike if the weather is not too bad, though it's usually going to the shops or family, struggle when its cold as my fingers go numb.

Gusting to over 50 kts today so the bike will stay indoors I think.

just got back --- rain / snow / wind ....had a great time - blew the cobwebs away !

I used to use my ezee torq all year for work 9 mile round trip, now retired old geezer I use for leasure all Year use, but in cold 3 c ish only once or twice a week short trips 16 to 20 miles OK in wind up to 25 mph max, balaclava under boarders helmet and Ljohns or lined waterproof trousers in case of rouge showers.

Maybe you don't have many +90 kph winds in Finland? Head winds that will stop the bike in its tracks. Side winds that will blow you across the road onto the wrong side and into oncoming traffic.

After Monday's gale, it was very nice to get out on the bike this morning, although a little cold on the face.

I use the bike for pottering around the village, shops, visit daughter, feed the ducks etc.

Not being able to walk all that far, I really value the bike and use it where others would probably walk.

But, this is Wales and there is nowhere flat near where I live except the sea front some 2 miles away down a hill.

(If you want to join the 50 club, come here. No need to use electricity or even pedal, just free wheel down our main road, you will soon hit 50mph.)

Monday was brilliant !! Well it was on the way to work.

 

I live in south coast with a 7 mile commute each way along the seafront.

 

I hit 38mph on the way in ! On the flat, pure wind assistance . Ain't no choice of power levels [emoji13]

Oh yes we have. Of course use common sense if trees start to fall etc.

 

We have crappy weather most of the year, especially at the south coast where I live. But I'm used to it and dress accordingly.

 

Whenever visiting UK during winter I'm astonished how skimpy people dress. And one time in Estonia during christmas when it was windy and really cold I bumped into a fellow wearing T-shirt and shorts. He was a brit.. :-D

You said they were cold blooded not me! You should see them in the winter here, they go swimming!

 

Here it is called the Bay of Biscay, there are no more trees to fall! But this month is not a month to put a bike outdoors without looking at the weather forecast and using a little sailors common sense (don't trust the weather forecast).
