Maybe you don't have many +90 kph winds in Finland? Head winds that will stop the bike in its tracks. Side winds that will blow you across the road onto the wrong side and into oncoming traffic.
Oh yes we have. Of course use common sense if trees start to fall etc.

We have crappy weather most of the year, especially at the south coast where I live. But I'm used to it and dress accordingly.

Whenever visiting UK during winter I'm astonished how skimpy people dress. And one time in Estonia during christmas when it was windy and really cold I bumped into a fellow wearing T-shirt and shorts. He was a brit.. :-D

You said they were cold blooded not me! You should see them in the winter here, they go swimming!

Here it is called the Bay of Biscay, there are no more trees to fall! :D But this month is not a month to put a bike outdoors without looking at the weather forecast and using a little sailors common sense (don't trust the weather forecast).

been out only a couple of times since beginning of November ..honestly its barely stopped wind and rain since beginning of November in the forth valley. we had 3x the average rainfall in January and wind to match. never mind the snowdrops are out and we've had a couple of dry days this week..spring is just round the corner.

When I find the time I use the Boardman for road and old rail track riding and the mtb for mud slapping as long as it's not raining I'm quite happy like a pig in sh*t. Lately thou I have just been too tied down :(. More rain expected here tomorrow so hoping to go out on a dull, dreary Sunday mud ride.

AT LAST the sun's shining and I'm about to go out for the third time in three days. However did come back from yesterdays ride smelling vaguely of cow sh*t, the lanes are a mess. The bikes been washed and fragranced with Muckoff and me waterproofs have been washed and proofed. Go out and do it all again !:)

Certainly different to here in Crowborough Benjahmin. I'm just about to head off for a ride on the Ultra 1964 pedal bike, in heavy rain and sleet. :(

Has to be done. :)

I also popped into my friends bike shop this morning to pick up the latest copy of Singletrack magazine, and the bastid has discounted this lovely carrot top coloured Orange RX9 cyclo cross bike to £749.00.
I need to tell myself that I really do not need yet another bike. ;) http://www.bikegoo.co.uk/bikes-frames-c4/orange-bikes-c68/orange-orange-rx9-s-bike-ex-display-p919

A CX could work for you, Eddie.

It would feel very light and nimble compared to the 1964, and you probably have the bike control skills to make the most of a CX's off-road capability.

Don't tempt me. If I had the money spare I would, if only to try to generate some income for the bike shop. :)

It might have worked well for me today though. :)

There already!

A fitting title for today's short ride on the Ultra 1964. It was a choice of stay at home whining about a bad back, whilst looking out of the window at the sleet and rain, or get off off my backside and ride. In the scheme of things it wasn't a long ride at 17 miles, but it was yet another of those rides that made you so glad to be out.
I've completed this ride many times on the e-mtb, and have also ridden it on the Ultra on three occasions. It has three lengthy drags, two of which have previously seen me slip into the granny ring to complete. Not today though, my poor breathing technique aside, the climbs were seemingly effortless, and I seemed to spend the whole ride, looking back at the climbs, rather than looking towards them defeated before the start.

I have no idea why this photo keeps going upside down!

I also put in one last short road climb before turning back downhill for home, and without knowing it, managed to pull off a sixth fastest Strava time, out of 931 riders. A very pleasant way to finish a ride.

And they say that an e-bike makes you fat and lazy!

I'm not as enthusiastic as some of you on here! We were away for the weekend in the Peak District and went for a 10 mile ride on the Tissington Trail; Wheata Woods close to Sheffield and also along a couple of canal paths. First time ever I've managed to cycle past both my hubby and son so that put a smile on my face!
Still feeling a bit 'cheaty' about having an e-bike but the truth is that without it I wouldn't have been out at all so I'm coming around to the thought that a bit of exercise is better than none at all.

hi all up too about 2 years ago prior to getting an ebike, from about November onwards would cycle about 3 miles, befor feeling like a frozen t*urd and going into local pc world to thaw out.

having an ebike I can get home quicker, but I find now at 67 I use my ebike far less at this time of year in fact 8 times since 30th nov. and use the bus instead.

this year seems very unsettled always windy and rainy. but do much more in the summer

for those who do not use there ebike for work, do you still get out and brave our crap weather?

thanks all
I guess it depends upon our own unique circumstances.

For me, public transport to my office is so poor (takes 2 hours by bus) that I don't really have any alternative but to cycle. So my eBike is used 4 times a week, every week, 4 x 16 mile round trips.

Sometimes when the weather is poor, that can be quite a challenge.

We don't use ours for transport, purely off-road in the hills. We've been using our "normal bikes" for 40+ years and decided we'd put a few powered ones in the garage for a laugh after taking the p**s out of e-bikes going past us on hills for the last few years whilst soldiering on...Given the choice, I'd ride elec 24/7, but we've got so much invested in our "normal" bikes that we still persevere one in two rides with the proper bikes and it's worth it...there's no way you could keep up with a sorted, lightweight FS AM bike until you hit a big hill...and there's a lot less to go wrong lol

Whereas previously I would shy away from the bike during periods of awful weather, the pedal assist nullifies most and waterproofs and warm gloves does the rest.
As others have said, catch a good tailwind and there's a lot of fun to be had, especially along the seafront.
I don't turn Strava on very much, but I did on this day :)

Naughty really, but it's a bit of fun.
Should my conscience make me delete it?
