With your extreme pessimism it's wonder you bother to get up each day. Those are things that only happen to other people, and in that I'm over 99.9% correct.

And as for the sphere hurtling through space, it's been doing that for 4.6 billion years. What makes you think it might do something nasty to me in the very brief moment I'm on it? The odds against that happening have a long string of nines after the 99's percentage decimal point. That's why we are trying to save the sphere from ourselves, it's going to be here for a long time into the future and we want to share that.
.
The world is a wonderfully dangerous, difficult place. It's possible to wake up knowing that, even looking forward to it. One doesn't have to be in a state of manic denial to get out of bed. And it isn't very scientific to be in one. If I were to properly get on my soap box I'd say you have to acknowledge death to become fully alive. Take a good look at boris. And his 18 million supporters. It's a clinical vignette of where blanket manic denial takes one. And not a happy place.

Depending on the individual. I'm not at all accident or illness prone and have sailed though life with remarkably little incident. So my world hasn't been too dangerous and difficult a place. Conversely many experience totally the opposite, but not an experience I share.

I'd say you have to acknowledge death to become fully alive.
I did that very long ago by 20 years old. Since then I've always said the same thing about death:

"I'm ready to die at any time, even before the end of this sentence".

Dead or alive doesn't matter to me. I know I'm alive but will never know I'm dead.

Take a good look at Boris
I'd rather not.

Apparently the blonde bawbag has been under some pressure to smarten himself up.
He went to his tailor and asked if they had a suit to fit him.
The tailor looked him up and down and said "If we have, somebody's for the sack."
A sack probably would make him smarter.

He could follow its advice.

I was talking to a lady who works in a Covid testing laboratory last night. They process PCR tests and sample a % of the positives for omicron.

She says 70% of the samples are testing positive for omicron. That’s gone up from around 15% in the past week.

She also told me that a group of 20 from the lab went out to have their Christmas meal last weekend. They all did PCR tests at work prior to the meal. 15 of the 20 now have Covid! They are certain they all caught it in the restaurant

This variant seems to be hideously contagious. The slightly brighter news is that all 15 with COVID from the restaurant are saying it’s no worse than a heavy cold. It’s likely the omicron variant that these 15 have. A couple have tested positive for the variant. The others haven’t been checked for it.

Nothing to worry about.

This is just Covid-19 hysteria number 4.
I am watching Chris Whitty answering questions by MPs.
He backpedalled a fair bit, especially on the question of the link between number of cases and hospitalisations.
He obviously knows that some of those that need a covid pass will have to be tested which will increase the number of daily tests which will increase the number of positive cases.

If 90% of the samples they tested are Omicron, that's good news.

That's why I'm disregarding the positive test numbers. They are worthless since they are directly related to the numbers being tested, which in turn are related to the numbers who have vaccinated. Those who dont bother to vaccinate don't bother to test and the data on vaccination and testing shows that very clearly. So the very people we most want the results for are not represented.

Ultimately the only truly useful number is that of deaths, and that won't be fully useful for a decade, given the very large variations in year on year deaths from all causes.

I agree, the only true indicator is to measure the height of the pile of covid ridden carcasses. The difficulty is knowing whether to throw a body on the Covid pile or the “other causes” pile.

Hospitalisation isn’t a bad indication of how much trouble we are in. Not perfect, but it gives an idea.

I’m pretty sure the thinking is that omicron isn’t as serious health threat as previous versions. I guess they can’t say this until more data is available. People will go mental if they believe it’s low risk.

Haven't you realised yet JC... People go mental irrespective of outcomes... Its modern way, every fecker has some complaint or other. No way on earth any government could keep us all happy now... We all expect too much, demand our freedoms and rights but do feck all to earn them.
The wokes, non binary, LGBT, BLM, remainers, leavers, rich, poor, fatist, ageist, prejudiced, EDL, vegans, eurosceptics, europhiles, SAS, Greens, extinction rebellion,Insulate Britain, anti vaxxers.. List is endless of dissatisfied... And all vocal..

Dr Suzanne Hopkins said that they need 250+ covid in-patients in hospitals before they can get an idea how dangerous Omicron is.
That may be why Raab mistakenly told Sky that we have 250 in hospital with Omicron.
The number was 10 yesterday.

Long ago my grandparents and to some extent my parents had next to nothing. Just a basic roof over their heads, the minimum of basic furniture on bare floorboards, lots of very hard work over long hours and just enough food inside them.

They had no time or energy to complain or get heavily involved in politics beyond casting a dutiful vote, or get involved in anything else outside the absolute necessities of their lives.

To say they were happy is probably too much, but they were content.

Later in life my parents life was radically changed. Settled in the home of their choice that I had bought for them, they no longer had to work for a living and had everything in modern life plus holidays and all the leisure anyone could want.

But they were no longer content, expressing dissatisfaction with all manner of things.

We are really just like all the other animals, but they spend all their waking lives grazing or hunting to survive when not sleeping.

In truth we all need a hard life to fully occupy us to be content at the end of each day. Time on our hands spells trouble.

None of the above matters. It’s only what I want to do and say that is of any importance. It’s my right to behave however it suits me, irrespective of any harm done to others. The government should facilitate this:p

No by Raab told Sky new that 250 were in hospital because he’s a useless clown who’s found his way into a job which demands skills that have so far evaded him.

Glad I won't be using any vans.

Transport goods in and out of the UK using vans or car and trailers from 21 May 2022

What transport companies and couriers need to do to use vans and car and trailers over 2.5 tonnes to transport goods in and out of the UK from 21 May 2022.

They do... All the time..
Letting people speak and behave as they wish is one of their rare qualities.
Get a fine for speeding... No problem, glue your hands to M25 at rush hour.
Take against Nelson, no problem pull his Column down and chuck it in river.
Take against Churchill... Graffiti his statue... That's fine..
But ask an Asian if he likes Curries... Hang that man.
